So, for those of you who are Doctor Who fans, when did you first see an episode? Which incarnation was it (more specifically: regeneration)? What did you think when you saw it?

For me, it all began one summer night when I was 12. I was flipping through the channels on the TV, looking for something to watch, like people are want to do. I got to one of public broadcasting stations in the area, and discovered this strange show about this old man who went around fighting dinosaurs, robots, aliens, and the like. He was working with this group called UNIT. I was very intrigued (it was probably the robots and aliens that did it) and started watching. I found out that the old man was called "The Doctor", and he was a time-traveler. I started watching the show every time it came on (7:00 PM on Saturday, when they showed 2 episodes). The guy who played the Doctor was called John Pertwee. I have been a Doctor Who fan every since.

Being a wee little babby, my first experience with Doctor Who was the first episode of the revival. At the time I thought the Doctor's only enemies were the Daleks, I was getting confused when none showed up for the episode.

And then, one season later, the Daleks were so numerous, they were coming out of your ears. XD[footnote]Yes, I do think Davies used the Daleks way too damn much. Why do you ask?[/footnote]

Also, I too am pretty young (19). On some public broadcasting stations, they show old episodes of Doctor Who, which is where I first saw it (explained in more detail in OP).

An ex girlfriend showed it to me first, and my first Doctor was Eccleston, who's still my favorite to this day. My first thoughts was that it was an interesting series, but a bit too sci-fi for my tastes. I really enjoy the show, though, and I've gotten through the fourth season of it, so far.

My very first experience with Doctor Who was a fourth Doctor episode when I was very young. I don't remember much about it except that Tom Baker looked silly and it was on the local PBS station. My first experience that I was old enough to really remember was the American premier of the new series, on the Sci-Fi channel. I've only missed two episodes since, and I've caught them both on repeats.

In the realm of Doctors, I think Eccleston is a bit underrated. I certainly would have liked to see at least another season or two of him, especially since he was much different from Smith of Tenant (a bit more violent and dark). Ah well, life is like that sometimes...

The Empty Child episodes. I watched it at a friends house, after resisting for so long because anything he usually watched tended to be crap, then discovered it was actually pretty damn good. Then I just kept watching them. Obviously, therefore, Eccleston was my first Doctor, although Tennant's always been my favourite Doctor. That said, I originally thought some new guy could never be as awesome as Christopher Eccleston. It just turned out that he was.

IIRC, the first time I saw a doctor who episode was when in like 2007 when it was on tv,I watched it for like 5 minutes and thought "this must be like one of those really low budget sci-fi films you see on the scifi channel" and kind of left the room. It wasn't until recently that I found it on netflix and decided to actually watch an episode and found out that I really enjoy the show.

I tried to show it to my friends but they think it's stupid :(

First time I actually watched it was when it was rebooted in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston (that seems like a lifetime ago!). I was aware of the older stuff and had seen clips but I'd never watched an episode.

I completely agree. I loved that he was witty and humorous but also serious and dark at times. I think he was a great start to the new gen of Dr. Who and I really wish they could somehow bring him back, or that he'd done another season.

I don't remember how old I was but I think I must have been about... eleven, twelve, something like that. I was visiting my dad and he left the TV on for me. There was an episode of Doctor Who on. I don't remember which Doctor it was but if I remember correctly there was this mountain and there were daleks... but that's all I can remember.

I didn't start watching it properly until the shiny new series started with Eccleston.
