I'd guess there have been threads like this before, but the search function only turned up news articles on Risen.

Anyway, I played the demo for the 4th one, and it seems to be a not-boring version of the Witcher.

I was just wondering if the other three are this good, or if I should only buy certain ones. They all seem to have mediocre metacritic scores, but i know better than to think that has any bearing on anything.

Edit: I'm aware the actual story for this is probably going to be a joke and the voice acting is beyond awful. Like I said, not boring version of the Witcher.

Gothic 4 Arcania is a very very linear hack and slash, with a very limited amount of fighting styles. I enjoyed it a lot for the first hours, but after a while it just got very repetitive.

I don't have an Nvidia card, and I already know it's going to be a linear hack & slash(hence the Witcher reference). So I guess 4 would be fine.

Really? Doesn't work on my GeForce 240 and when I did some research pretty much everyone seemed to have the same problem.

Gothic 4 is possibly one of the worst sequels ever made. It has so little to do with the other games in terms of story, gameplay, or any other general mechanics that attaching the Gothic title to it was little more than an attempt by the publisher to throw the fans a bone. The third isn't as bad in theory, but it has so many bugs that if you don't install the community patches you'll be running circles around your yard with an axe in no time. However, the first two games are some of the best RPGs I've ever played. They proved that the world wasn't ready for Oblivion's stupid AI by proving that scripting can make a far superior world in terms of believability, and the stories were pretty good too. You can pretty much only get the games in the bundle these days, so you'll have to get the third one with them, but you should definitely buy them.

In short, it goes like this. Gothic 1, 2, and Risen are like Arcania, except that they're actually good. Gothic 3 has the makings of a good game, except that it has more bugs than South America.
