You know, whenever I see Far Cry 2 on the shelf at Gamestop I always consider buying it, especially since it's so cheap. Was it a good game or not? Some say it's a piece of shit, and others think it's pretty good. thoughts?

There were characters? Seriously, played half of the game and it never even mentioned it to me.

worth picking up, it could have been great, but a few really irritating niggles pushed it down to ok-good. for me anyway.

I picked the guy who looked like he was on vacation, for lulz.

I had the oldest guy, "Master McMeaty", as my best friend.

Do it. It has incredible visuals, fire system, and free-roaming. The two things people didn't like (malaria meds, failed stealth, damned guard checkpoints) can be worked around: When you run out of meds, make it a priority to get more, and crawl in a corner to cower if you have a malaria attack. Despite what many think, you are NOT on a death clock.

As for stealth, GO AT NIGHT. Seriously, it was almost as good as Splinter Cell. Everyone who whined about the crap stealth went during the day, I guarantee you.

As for the damned guard checkpoints... if you aren't attached to any of your vehicles, just avoid them entirely.

I remember I played as the Hakim guy..... the Algerian, and for the 1st half me and Josip Iderimo(don't know if I spelled it right) wee best buds, after he died and I went to the second half, I became buddies with Marty Alencar (yup, still don't know if I spelled it right)
and for some reason I about cried when I had to kill Josip once.... But unlike real life, I could reload and save him(yaaay!)

I played as Marty because he is a person who uses fingerless combat gloves, just like I do.

I also played the game in a way of trying to maintain a Dune-buggy with me all the time as a "companion". It actually made traveling quite easy when always having a form of transportation which is fast and is easy to ride off-road.

Ah, it might sound a little silly, but I played as Quarbani Singh because I liked his gloves. I mean, if I was going to be looking at my character's hands for the entire game, I might as well pick the guy with the cool leather gloves, right?

It didn't really matter which one you played, in my opinion, the game was monogendered and frankly a lame sequel to the Farcry series. I played as Marty (not like it mattered), for a while at least but gave up on it because it was so goddamn BORING.

Didn't bother with a partner.

At least on Mercenaries 2 you have a choice, and it actually affects the gameplay a little.

Paul. I had just downloaded the Fortunes Pack, so the idea of a badass Jew with a silenced shotgun just screamed "Anton Chigurh" to me.

As for my friends, my favorite had to be Josip. He was killed in the plane crash on my playthrough and I had to put him down, though. During the second act my buddy with Nasreen Davar, who I genuinely liked.

It's not like I hate all negative talk regarding Far Cry 2... The game had quite a few problems, but all in all I still think its an amazing game. I enjoyed the game so much that I didn't even mind working around its flaws. Some people couldn't get past the games problems, and I can understand that.

But-... I would rather you just not post anything than write out a post like this. It basically just says "I didn't play through the game that this board is discussing for that long, but I still think the whole thing is awful and without merit, and also I have nothing to say about the topic that this board revolves around."

I just picked whoever because it made no difference.
This was also a retarded comment, for similar reasons.

The character you picked in Far Cry 2 was an avatar of some traits you wished to project onto your in-game self, which was reflected aesthetically on your characters hands and body-model.

The reason I made this topic, was to see which avatar each person chose and the traits they associated with him.

If you're not the type of person to be able to do that with a player-model, this topic was not aimed at you.

Hakim Echebbi.

I thought his picture looked badass, so I jumped at the opportunity to play as him. I can't remember the specifics, but his military history also appealed to me for whatever reason.

My best buddy (who managed to survive the entirety of the game [the entirety of what I played, anyway]) was Josip, and I like the idea of him being the best buddy. My first other buddy was Warren.

Huh.. Did your mother ever tell you assumptions are the mother of all fuckups? Mine did. I didn't complain about the gameplay or demerit it in any other way than the very fact that it was boring.
And the appearance of my arms really weren't important to me. When I have a gun and I have people shooting at me, I tend to be more concerned at looking at the people who are trying to kill me, I dont exactly have time to waste looking at my arms or the appearance of my clothes.

Do you have some psychological need of your own to stare at your arms for prolonged periods of time, believing they give you character? Does the fact you have fingerless gloves or wrist bands really matter when you've got more important problems to deal with?

If you want to roleplay, go play a roleplaying game and point out your pretty little arms and your clothes as much as you please because maybe then some-one will care.

Farcry 2 bored me. The story we'd gotten so used to was thrown out of the window for what was essentially a first-person "Mercenaries" game. I'm sorry I cant seem to get along with this fucking stupid idea you have in your head that aesthetics actually matter in that game. Aesthetics only layer onto what's already there to spruce things up AFTER you've made sure the game isn't boring as all hell.

I cant fault the game as far as gameplay goes, but it was and I repeat for lord knows what time, it was boring to me, absolute drivel and predictability compacted into an open free-roaming shooter.

I also apologise if I say bad things about a game you happen to enjoy, all I can say is; too bad. Not everyone's going to agree with you, sooner you get it through your skull the sooner you can move on and find some common ground.
The aesthetics you're so proud of just didn't matter and they sure as hell didn't make it more exciting. Its an opinion, in a thread full of opinions, and its my opinion, I'm happy with it, you're not, I dont care, get over it or waste your time trying to make your opinion superior.

I had forgotten that you could choose your character.

I chose Marty Alencar, as far as I can remember. Only tried the game for couple hours.

The very first thing I said was that I was fine with people not enjoying the game. I personally enjoyed it, if others didn't, i understand.. Did you miss that? Because I made a point of establishing it early.

_

But the main thing that I had said in my post, was that the aesthetic changes in your player model were representative of you as a person and what you wanted to be in game. This is what this board is about, and you literally don't have anything to say on that topic.

Imagine that a group of people are discussing dogs, and how the names we chose for them projects human traits onto them. They are all discussing this in a calm intelligent manner, and someone is standing in the middle of the group, loudly yelling that Dogs are dumb and and he doesn't like them, and that cats are better. This man clearly doesn't belong to this conversation, and he is disrupting the conversation, and has no clue what the conversation is actually about. This man doesn't own a dog, and if he did he wouldn't name it. And if he did name it he wouldn't put any thought into it. This man is incapable of having an opinion on the conversation.
He is standing in the middle of this discussion, naked, probably drunk and yelling about something only technically related to the topic.

This man should leave.
