I love offensive humor! its my blood you might say and I consider it one of those things that you can enjoy without actually promoting the content within(like racist jokes under the understanding that you are not racist and such things are not ok in real life.) so I laughed maniacally at this video from watch dogs wherin the player character basically profiles and assassinates any character different from them. In real life this would be horrible but here its just so damned comical. heres a link to the video and the kotaku piece.

Ill say this though. its hard to tell sometimes when someone really is just joking and when they believe what they are saying. assuming this video is just in jest and the uploader doesnt believe that they are "making the world a better place" then Im fine with it.

I believe it started as a joke on /v/, I remember seeing some threads about doing this around the time the game came out... so yeah, it was done just to be offensive.

Considering a lot of "offensive humour" is just doing and saying the shit actual bigots do, no I don't find it particularly funny and they shouldn't be surprised when people react to them like they are one.

It can be very funny if they pull it right.
The video in question - the Watch_Dogs hacker shooting minorities - isn't particularly funny. I chuckled when the guy shot a person for being Canadian, which struck me as tongue-in-cheek hypocrisy (or are Canadians considered a minority?), and then when he shot the "avid gamer", for obvious reasons. But in the end it's not very funny. Some of the deaths don't make sense and there doesn't seem to be a clear structure building up to a punchline.

Well, when political correctness turns people into unfunny prudes who can have a laugh about themselves and overreact about everything, yes that kind of makes them douches.

There needs to actually be a joke somewhere. Realising some things that are part of 'your culture' are a bit silly either in or out of context and having a laugh about that or taking something horrific and pointing how absurd the whole situation is in the first place is one thing (which is might be what this video is poorly attempting to do) but "laugh about themselves"...being shot in the face for existing and this being presented as making the world a better place? especially with Muslims and homosexual who actually get threats like this? that's just not funny. If I put a "god hates fags" sign around my neck regardless of whether I actually believe it I'm not going to blame people being PC when they get pissed off.

I laughed quite heavily at some of the more ridiculous ones like when he shot the guy from Canada or the avid gamer. Seeing him shoot some characters, such as blacks and Muslims, though, certainly weren't that funny, as some of these people have been killed due to their religion, race, or sexual orientation. Offensive jokes sort of lose their humor when they start acting as if real horrors are themselves a joke.

There is nothing so offensive it can't be made funny.

There is nothing so funny nobody will find it offensive.

Humor is often about skirting (or taking a flying leap over) the boundary between cultural notions of acceptability and unacceptability. Some who hear are taught to question, others to laugh at ourselves, still others to get offended/indignant/etc.

I want to feel bad for people who are easily offended, but they really do bring it on themselves. Besides, it's so much more fun to push their buttons.

EDIT: I should probably add that I didn't watch the video. I can guess well enough what's in it.
