They were telling the truth https://ebgames.com.au/featured/playstation-4 as you can see there but it's that game prices that are fucked which you will notice if you scroll down a little after following that link.
Good lord. Median Australian wages are about 47K, right? That's a rather uncomfortable percentage for just one game (Thief for instance). Just over a quarter of a percent for a non-limited edition game, if I'm not mistaken. That's more than double the US equivalent. =\

I'm just thankful it's a low price, but the thing that bugs me more is the game prices. From what I've heard, next-gen games will be $60 or £55. I haven't done any maths about it but that seems like we're paying way more for them. This is bad because (hopefully) I'll be spending much more money on games than on the console itself. Thank god for pre-owned games.
That's the start of game prices in Australia you know.

It could be worse. You could be in Australia where we get charged 70% more for music and movie downloads and 33% more for games, despite the fact that our dollar is on par with the US dollar.

For physical goods I agree, but if we're talking digital goods then its highway robbery.

Things cost more in the UK anyway, our wages on average are higher, and therefore so are our general costs. It's not Sony or MS being bastards, it's all down to economics.

Still 1000SEK(around £100) cheaper than it'll be in Sweden, so shush. ;)
I feel sorry for Australians too, they are known for being ripped off when it comes to luxury goods.
Aye, though from what I read in another PS4 thread the price in Australia was gonna be 549AUD. Not sure if that persons source was reliable, since it seems a bit low compared to their usual prices. It exchanges to £331.
That Aus price is correct, the NZ price is $649.99 so we pay quite a bit too, although less of a gap then last gen. That was $1200 NZD for the PS3 at release.

It's like that for digital in NZ, I know that for sure. It sucks, one of the only things that doesn't do it is Steam apart from a few games (usually the CoD ones) that the publishers make cost more for us.
