So, why do people dislike Saints Row the Third anyway?

I can barely run SR3, but it is just a game to play to fuck around in. That is my opinion.

Saints Row 3 is a lot of fun, but I believe Yahtzee eloquently summed up my biggest problem with it: it's simply "masturbatory." It's a blast to play, but there's no real sense of context or challenge. Yes, it's hilarious to slap people around with a giant purple dildo, but the fact that the rest of the world is so ridiculous that the ridiculous no longer becomes special.

I stopped playing Saint's Row III when I went to the weapon shop for the first time and the melee weapon's upgrades were something like baseball bat->baseball bat with spikes-> A giant purple dildo!

I don't want sound like a prude, that weapon would have been a hilarious secret in some S&M club late game. But throwing a dildo in your face almost immediately? It seemed like they were trying too hard to be "edgy" and "wacky".

I think SR3 could take some tips from Team Fortress 2 how to balance out the wacky and the serious stuff. Sure, there's giant ham, lollipop and fish melees, a guy singing to his sandwich and rubber boots/brain slugs/living octopus/birdcage as hats, but all these are balanced by other relatively serious and realistic weapons and environments.

TL;DR: In the words of Robert Downey Jr: "Never go full retard."

I don't really care for it because it's not that great of a game. Not much passion bleeds through the pixels. It's just silly for the sake of silly, and everything else takes a back seat.

At least with a Rockstar game, I get the sense that they're trying.

Well, initially I was just disappointed that Eliza Dushku wasn't back as Shaundi.

Yahtzee summed it up best when he said that SR2 controlled its wackiness. SR3 runs with it, and suffers. I preferred being a gangster, not a parody of a sell out.

Still, I do like both games (SR1? We don't talk about it).

People dislike Saints Row the Third because it was a shit game.

They took what was a half decent gta knockoff series and went full retard on it. The story stopped being coherent about two hours in and the farther in you get the more random shit they through at you that makes absolutely no sense at all. Then after the next mission everybody acts like that shit never happened at all. The series was far better off when it was trying to copy San Andreas instead of trying to do the stupidest shit possible.
yep, my thoughts exactly. I'll never understand people who waste time playing this crap

I don't understand why someone would search for "dislike Saint's Row" just to necro a thread to let us know as much. Seems a lot of effort to me and possibly a waste of time. :p

This thread is a good read especially now as GTA V adds a fresh perspective. I can't help but wish V was more like IV or Red Dead Redemption which would leave Saint's Row as the goto for silly, yet often entertaining guilty pleasure. Not going to happen though.

I disliked it because I believe in points on the scale aside from super realism and uber whacky.
SR2 occupied a spot somewhere in the middle and I loved it, as others have said better than I.
My character in SR2 felt and WAS a badass. In 3, I never felt like a badass, I felt like a clown.

Saints Row III gives me motion sickness. It's predecessors do not.

Can't play more than 10 mins without wanting to hurl.

If you'll notice, I wasn't talking to you. And there you go, you even enjoyed the thing so good on you.
