Edit: Apparently, smoking doesn't cause stress.
Bull crap it doesn't! You were right before the edit. Smokers live from one cig to another. Anxiously waiting for that work breaking. Throwing on that winter coat to go stand in 5 degree weather just so they can light up. Freaking out and begging people for a cig if they suddenly find they've run out. Hell, my own parents wont stay at my apartment longer than 30 minutes because I wont let them smoke in here.

YEAH! That sounds so relaxing.
You are a sad sad person. Why can't you accept people the way they are? Even if they're worse people than yourself because they have other habbits. I can tell you're a really col guy who doesn't judge people on whether they smoke or not. I bet you're perfect!

Basically I was agreeing with you.

I have a tendency to only reaaaally smoke at weekends, it's great when your out with mates at the pub drinking or whatnot. I also enjoy it. The thing is I don't need it, that's what makes the difference I think. I would be worried if I craved one through the week during work but I just don't.

Also, as many have said it's a social thing. You all go outside in the beer garden for a smoke and it's like a relaxation method...?

Either way, haters gonna' hate.

Oh one more thing. When all of your mates smoke, and you don't... you feel quite the outcast.

Yes being able to hear the moans of "When's break. I need a cig so bad" and being able to see the people huddled in the cold and the rain because they can't go any longer without it. I guess anyone with ears and eyes are clearly judgmental.

I don't care what you do. It's your life do with it what you want. Just don't try to BS your reasons for doing it.
I'm going to quote myself from another post here:

"You said it brother! Though it's not only americans as you imply, but smokers almost all over the world who have to stand in he freezing cold. But when it's summer...

Also I recall playing in a band in which there wwas one guy who didn't smoke, so he stayed inside when we went for a fag.. We really bonded, but almost never really talked to him. Suddenly he was just there, and not really a part of the tight group we had become. One of the greatest things about smoking is the social part of it. I can't count how many people I've met because of smoking. Many of them became very good friends of mine. Plus if I didn't smoke, my best friend (now) and I wouldn't have had anything to talk about when we first met, and we probably wouldn't be friends. Today we're like brothers.

All those anti-smokers (anti, not just non-smokers) are simple beings who believes more in the propaganda and hate, than the people they can see and talk to. And that's just sad."

You have no reason to be an ass. Learn to respect people with a different view on life than your own.
.... HA! AHAHAH HA HAAAAAAA! Oh God! That's funny! Because in my group it was just the opposite. The one guy who smoked had to vanish every 30 minutes to go outside or to a designated smoking area. Sometimes we'd even forget he was there. Not maliciously but he wasn't really part of the group. We didn't need to drop everything every 30 minutes to get a fix so he just got left behind. On those times when we HAD to wait up for him he was a complete pain in the ass.
That was a bit more of a comment than a reply.

Should have eaten more meat, puts the stomach lining straight back on

The oldest living woman, lived to a ripe old age of 120 or some stupid number like that smoked every day of her life, and died due to old age. Kind of urinates all over the "If you smoke you will get cancer" bonfire.

Smoking can affect cancerous growth. Cancer is NOT a direct result of smoking.

I'd love to keep tearing you down but I have to go to work. But here's what I'll do. To honor you I'll stop laughing at the smokers huddled outside in the cold. Today at least. And I'll try to find their cigarette stench and yellowing teeth less repulsive. Can't make any promises on that though.

Have a nice day!

Speaking as a smoker, I do not live from cigarette to cigarette. That being said, I must not be a real smoker then.
Would you care to elaborate? I'm afraid I don't really understand the meaning of your post.
I was assuming the person saying smokers live cigarette to cigarette would say something along the lines of I'm not a real smoker because I don't live cigarette to cigarette. You know using the "No True Scotsman" line of thinking that is predominate in people that like the classify what it means to be a smoker or a gamer or a whatever. Basically I was agreeing with you.
Well yes, anti-smokers tend to view upon us as a sort of untermensch, who suffer some kind of disease. That we are incapale of doing anything without constant breaks, and live solely for the cigarette. It kind of disgusts me that people think that way of other human beings. But hell, the kids will grow up and learn to accept it. Cheers!

EDIT: I apologize for the noobness of my posting and quoting. I'm not that good with forums.

Smoking is sh*t (all of it) it never did anything for me. My girlfriend recently started and i F*%$!#@ Hate it! Her reason for starting was "all my friends do"................ so its just a stupid image thing. As for the idea that smoking "is sociable" might just be the fact that all smokers have both a quiet area to talk and something they all have in common. SMOKING!. On anohter final point; Isnt it possible that,
silence + placebic expectations + controlled breathing = relaxing.

People seem to do it out of peer pressure and social acceptance within certain circles. Ironically it is now socially unacceptable to smoke. My sister started few years back and quit but still says she has cravings. Hearing stuff like that scare me.

And your smoking habits disgust me. Hey! We're even! The only difference is I don't smell like an ash tray and I have money! Obviously I am very weak for not giving into peer pressure like you did.

You are so much fun. :)

I've started cause I wanted to know how it feelt like and because i wanted to look like a bad ass. Now I've been smoking for four years. I just like it. Granted I may be enjoying it so much because of the adiction though I don't see myself as an addic because I've stopped smoking for a month because of a bet I've made.

It is still very bad for you. You're not designed to inhale ash and tar slime. You're designed to breathe oxygen.

Pointing at a single individual and saying "shes okay! that means its okay!" well, yeah, a couple people survived the Titanic but that doesn't mean its safe to sail around icebergs without watchmen.

And yes other things can cause traffic accidents I was merely pointing out ways that being a smoker cn make it worse since you seemed to be implying that it didn't.

Again, smoking make it worse, my example was just that, an example, smokers often (though not always) get stressed more easily than non-smokers, I was just pointing out how it can be a problem.
And I'm not going to post 101 way to die by smoking (by the way that sounds like a great name for a book) because I wasn't trying to disprove your claim, it's just that you seemed to be trivializing it.
For example there're only a handfull of ways to be killed by a train that doesn't stop people from thinking they can be dangerous.

You ponted out that alchohol is a more dangerous drug due to drnk driving, this is common arguement made by smokers to defend their habit "But I'm not hurting anyone!", I chose to shoot down that arguement before it was made, perhaps you wouldn't haves used it but I figured "get it out of the way first post".

As for the last bit, do you wear glasess?
If not put on some sunglassess then follow my instructions:
Push them up as far as they'll comfotably go, so they are covering your eyes.
Now try to bring your finger from outside of your field of view and poke your self in the eye without bliknking, don't worry the glasses will stop your finger.
Not so easy is it?
Now get a freind to try to poke your eye through your glassess quickly without blinking, that's even harder isn't it?
Now inmagine that somewone tried to do it without warning, could you keep your self from blinking, or even recoiling in shock?

It doesn't matter wether you're wearing a vior or not, if a small object is going straight for your eyes at high speed you WILL react, especially if you don't expect it.

Now at best they'll blink, a little worse they may jerk their head in suprise throwing off their ballance, worst case they may instinctivly try to shield their eyes with one of their hands.
No matter which it's a hazzard, though admittedly one caused by carelessness rather than smoking directly.
This will be my last post on this, because your arguments really are silly. If traffic accidents is the worst part you can think of when it comes to smoking then you're seriously barking up the wrong tree. Driving while being an idiot is one of the biggest hazard, yes. If it is smoking, texting, surfing, reading the newspaper or drinking coffee might cause traffic accidents.

Well let's do the math shall we? Cigs cost 6 dollars a pack where I live. Say you smoke a pack a day. That's over 2000 dollars a year, before tax. That means, per year, I have 2000 more dollars than someone who works a job equal to my pay who smokes a pack a day. Let's not even get into the medical costs.

I admit, there's a chance that wont make you broke depending on income and how much you smoke... though I have yet to meet a smoker that didn't complain of being broke.

They cost $4 a pack here, and I can smoke a pack in a week and a half. So it only cost like $200 a year. And $200 a year ain't breaking me. So now you have met a smoker that isn't broke.

-.-
Yes being able to hear the moans of "When's break.

You're such a sad little weak assmunch. Keep feeling like der übermensch, I'm sure hitler would be proud of you. You disgust me.
And your smoking habits disgust me. Hey! We're even! The only difference is I don't smell like an ash tray, I have money, and I'm not on an express train to lung cancer! Obviously I am very weak for not giving into peer pressure like you did.

You are so much fun. :)
I think it's cute how you think you're all holy. Please try to be less of a taunting little *****, and actually contribute to the conversation instead of just shining your own halo. You never really reply to what I say, you just keep telling how you're better. But damn, it's hopeless trying to talk sense into 12 year olds. It seems you only want discriminate and ***** instead of discussing, so have fun on your paper route. I'm out of this conversation.

Nicotine is scientifically proven to increase dopamine level, which causes a state of euphoria and relaxation . So it is more than just controller breathing.
