So Mojang is one of the finalists and this has created alot of rage with people... So my questions is.
Why is everyone so upset about it?
Its a smaller company that made something (not even finished) thats become popular.
For all i am concerned "GO MAJANG!"

And please, to flaming or trolling.
Thanks.

I have nothing against Mojang, but it bothers me that a game that isn't even out of beta yet has topped so many companies.

[sub] and it doesn't help that I'm a massive bioware fanboy. [/sub]

My primary reason for hating is that MM is a contest of best developer.

Majong, while they may be good, has released a grand total of 1/2 of a game. It may be great, but when compared to Bioware's entire library, it just shouldn't stand up.

What? Sorry, that grammar was horrible.

OT: I'm not annoyed. This years result is 1000000000000x better than last years.

I'm happy that Valve didn't win this year but... It looks like Mojang is going to beat my favourite developer. Oh well, it's not an actual competition of quality. It's a popularity contest and Mojang wins because it's a huge hit on the PC. Honestly, I don't think they should be in the contest because their game is only a beta and, therefore, is not released.

To those who would flame me, I love Minecraft. I spend hours on it.

I'd hold off on asking this question until after MM has died down.

But, I'm guessing it's because a lot of people don't feel they deserve it, because they're so new. Or they beat out another company someone else wanted to win.

I don't really get it either, but it sure is amusing to watch.

I am assuming its cause it beat the so loved Nintendo!
It is amusing seeing people get so upset over a popularity contest.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
because a company that hasn't really released anything is beating out everyones favorite AAA developers, essentially its like watching the old AAA games dying and being replaced by flash games, which more then a few of us are worried about

At last check Mojang was beating out Bioware. But it is an internet popularity poll and therefore largely inconsequential.

My problem with Minecraft is that it overshadows far better Indie games.

Diddo.

Minecraft was amusing. I had some fun with it. But it doesn't have a story - and I really like good writing in a game.

Also, Mojang knocked two of my favorite companies out of the running, and Bioware is still trying to catch Mojang's lead (you can do it Bioware!) so I'm a little personally annoyed with them. Nothing against Notch (even if I have made any number of jokes about him in the past three days) - I mean, I certainly don't have the talent to create Minecraft, so he's pretty awesome for that alone - but I'd rather a game company that put writing first (like Bioware) get the top spot.

Plus Bioware really deserves it after all these years of "almost wins". If Mojang lets us have it this year, I will not begrudge them next year when Minecraft is actually out of Beta and Mojang defeats everything. I'll disagree, but I won't begrudge.

Oh my god, I have lost count how many times I've typed this today XP. However, I shall reiterate why I believe Valve should have won over Mojang:

Let me start off by saying that I like Minecraft, so I'm not one of those people who are like "Minecraft is da suxors", but I'm also not one of the guys who is like "dis is teh GREETIST GAME EAVAAAR!!" either.

My belief about March madness (this being my first one) was that you were supposed to rate the different game companies and not just their games, though that of coarse does have the largest influence on the determination process. With that said, Valve has proven time and time again that they can make quality games consistently over the years and they have the edition of Steam to put on that resume. Mojang on the other hand has only made one game that is still being developed (or how all the angery fans have told me "free updates").

I will stand by these words: "Quality can be achieved, but consistency is something to strive for." You can quote me on that and make me eat my words if I go back on them. The fact that this is Mojang's only game means that we do not have enough proof that if Minecraft was just a fluke or not.

I also think a lot of people voted for Mojang just because its the "underdog" in this competition, in which most people seem to identify with. People want to root for someone who has only a small chance so they can feel good when it wins and they were right about this thing being secretly great. With this kind of competition, if enough people think that it can cause them to win, but this is because of that and not of its own merits. Plus, I think a lot of people are just mad about episode 3. I've got 3 words for those people: GET OVER IT. If they keep giving us games like L4D and Portal than I'm fine with the delays. A company or person should not be constrained to focus on one thing.

I've realized what a GIGANTIC wall of text I've just written so I guess I'm done. However, I do have one last thing. I keep getting responses from I guess you could say "hardcore" Minecraft fans. My god, I think they uplifted them from the Final Fantasy fan base. Please don't let the Minecraft fans take note from the Final Fantasy following, I can't handle another group like that DX

Majong shouldn't even be in the competition, period. Technically, since the game isn't finished, Majong have yet to release a game.

what happened in the last few years?
Zynga was a finalist. Atleast, I think they were. Either finalist or semi-finalist. I'm pretty sure finalist though.

I have nothing against them (save the opinion that they shouldn't have made it nearly this far,) but for me, the issue is the fanboys. I know that at this point, both BioWare and Mojang have fanboys out in full force around here, but I'll take a QQing fanboy over a smug fanboy any day.

The competition is damn near meaningless, so there's not much reason to be upset over it.

Honestly, I'm pleased with the results for it could've been far worse.

That's a big part of it. They haven't made a full game, how can it be best developer. Obsidian got abused for releasing an unpolished, glitchy game, but Mojang gets praised for charging for an incomplete game?

Secondly, they aren't the wonderful, innovative company the fans like to think they are. They used the source code to infiniminer to build Minecraft in the first place. Fair enough they built on it, added some features, but it's still in essence a game where you build stuff.

Plus, it might be fun, but it's kind of a lazy game. All they've done is scripted a few different items and said "Here, build some shit" Fun, maybe, but hardly a triumphant victory of coding.

Ugh. I dunno.

People just get way too invested in this stuff.

I suppose it's a bit like those folks who get all miserable when their favourite football team doesn't get into the finals.

I don't care who wins this MM thing, it's all a little silly anyway, and people showing this full on fanboy-esque rage is just baffling.

For the record though, I don't really think Mojang should win, because I don't find Minecraft all too interesting. But many people find it fun so of course it's popular. Why would I begrudge a game for that, particularly one so different to any mainstream game these days?
