because a company that hasn't really released anything is beating out everyones favorite AAA developers, essentially its like watching the old AAA games dying and being replaced by flash games, which more then a few of us are worried about

Well, to be fair, they can't be EVERYONE'S favorite if they're not winning the voting majority.

thats why Im fairly sure shenanigans are involved, I mean if you watched the voting for valve vs mojang, valve started way ahead and was ahead for most of the time, it seemed like only in the last day of the voting that mojang shot way up

really mojang shouldnt have been even put in the voting since they only have a beta at this point, its not even a real release

I think the biggest problem with Mojang is that the studio has yet to even release one full game. Has a film student ever been nominated for an Oscar because of the movie they were working on?

I don't care if it's going to revolutionize gaming or give the mainstream a break from dull shooters, release the game and then it's fair.

People in general love an underdog story, and people on the Internet, specifically, love to piss people off and create drama. I think these two things combined have a lot to do with Mojang's success in this ridiculous March Mayhem... thing.

I can conceive of Mojang legitimately toppling Nintendo and BioWare, even if I would personally strongly disagree. But I was completely blown away that Minecraft fans and Internet drama fans managed to out-muscle the forum's intense infatuation with Valve. I don't really care about the contest, I'm just surprised that I was so wrong. I thought I had a better handle on the will of the gamer community.

Seriously, the Escapist community's love for Valve is so thick I think I get a little on me every time I visit these forums.

I think it's absolutely hilarious, the whole MM. Bioware fans saying that minecraft is like farmvile or dwarf fortress and saying how minecraft is pointless, especially one particular user who says nothing in minecraft is worth doing and how it has no physics so it's pointless.

I adore minecraft because it gets rid of the graphics focused gameplay that all these other developers have and they lost. I'm sick of the squad based rpgs, I'm sick of the dull fps games valve has to offer and I'm tired of all these games I have on my shelves yet I never want to play any of them.

Maybe it's just me but I look at all these games and people are so prepared to ignore irritating faults that people say are overlooked but it's a lie. Games made from an industry with the most over inflated reviewing system in any form of medium and games based on action and how intense the gameplay is, not how fun it is.

Minecraft is fun, I don't care if people disagree and I don't care if it's similar to other games. The multiplayer, the atmosphere and the sheer scope available is unmatched and it does what all game developers should be doing, making a game fun

I keep getting responses from I guess you could say "hardcore" Minecraft fans. My god, I think they uplifted them from the Final Fantasy fan base. Please don't let the Minecraft fans take note from the Final Fantasy following, I can't handle another group like that DX

Why exactly did you feel the need to insult a whole group of people by comparing them to the absolute insanity going on in that other thread? Really. It's just... very impolite of you.

As far as I can tell, the only reason the Final Fantasy community gets annoying is because people always feel the need to insult what we like. I don't go around saying mean things about Valve games, even if the only one I ever actually enjoyed was Portal. TF2 and L4D are good games, just not my cup of tea.

It's a fact that the Final Fantasy group has some of the craziest fans out there. Every time a new Final Fantasy game comes out, it becomes extremely polarizing among the fans, and no one can agree on anything.

And I'm not some WRPG fan that thinks everything from Japan is androgynous and whiny either. I'm a huge fan of JRPGs, but the Final Fantasy crowd is just crazy.

likewise. minecraft is cool but yea mass effect 2 was my top game of the year. i kinda expected valve to win last round for all the expansions to steam that came out this year. they probably got hurt because they didn't come out with portal 2 or HL2 episode 3

What's with all the worship for Mojang? They released a single game in 2009, and somehow they're considered better then every other dev for a game which is neither original nor universally appealing?

I think doing something unique or at least underrepresented will generally get a lot more loyalty from it's fans than something that is universally appealing. Especially when "universally appealing" so frequently means "paint by numbers" and "watered down", as shown in franchises like Halo, Modern Warfare and Mass Effect. That said I will admit to enjoying the first Mass Effect for its story, even if I loathed the controls and the inventory interface especially and wished that BioWare had done better with the 'game' aspect, but I guess that's the price you pay for broader appeal.

Minecraft isn't unique, though. There are plenty of other games that allow free construction. All Minecraft added was the necessity to spend hours of your life hacking away in a ditch to find materials.

I'm mad because I thought this year BioWare would finally beat Valve in the finals. Instead, Valve gets eliminated and BioWare is losing to Mojang. A company with only one game that is still in beta.

My primary reason for hating is that MM is a contest of best developer.

Majong, while they may be good, has released a grand total of 1/2 of a game. It may be great, but when compared to Bioware's entire library, it just shouldn't stand up.

This, there's really no other big reason.

It's not that I don't like Mojang, it's just that Bioware is by far a better company. Hell, Project Aces is a better company and they haven't put anything out since 2007. Although they do have Ace Combat: Assault Horizon in a couple months...
