However, why would you do this? isn't it a tacit admission that we think games are a problem?
No, it isn't.
A number of the general public view gamers as amoral, uncaring killers-to-be with an addiction to the violent media they consume.

By participating in this "cease-fire" you prove that you a)consider morals, b)care and c)aren't addicted.
By refusing to participate, you fail to prove any of those things which, in the eyes of the anti-gamer, is essentially proof that you're all the bad things that they already thought you were.

That's a thing?
That's dumb.

I dunno, I just got the Oddworld shooter thing on GoG sale so I might end up playing that sometime.
Stranger's Wrath?

Very fun game. It has a pretty interesting twist on the shooter formula. Both game-play wise AND story-wise.
Yeah, that one.
I also got XIII. Good memories on the PS2, it'll be nice to see how well I can play it with K+M.

I probably wouldn't have because I don't really play "shooters" to begin with

I suppose I can dust off my Xbox and that copy of Halo I never gave back to my co-worker and pretend to enjoy it out of spite for 30 minutes.
Yes, a group is trying to honour 18 dead children, misguided or not, and your response is to do the exact opposite of their suggestion in order to spite them...
Yes, that is absolutely the best way to get people to believe that video-games aren't warping your mind...

Despite us not having to prove anything to idiotic bigots like them.

Games got the blame? Shocker. I can't wait for the next generation where games hopefully won't be blamed for all violence on this Planet.

Still, I'll be happy to join "no shooter Friday" .

Well, you're entitled to that opinion, but that wasn't the point I was responding to, so I don't particularly see the relevance.

The idea is dumb and I will play DOOM as protest.

Refusing to play certain games as a result of a shooting is to (even on the simplest level) admit some sort of responsibility on part of games.

After all the gaming industry has gone through to prove they don't make killers of us all, refusing to play a shooter on Friday is a step in the wrong direction and despite how nice of a gesture it is, it will only serve as ammo for gamings detractors.

Truth be told I don't really play FPS's anyway. I much prefer a bit of RTS/ old skool TBS and chess-mastering my pawns across a battlefield.

Let's turn this around for a second: Are you saying that you won't stop playing a game for 24 hours, just because someone asked you to do so? Keeping in mind, it's not all games, but only a certain genre of game. Context aside, that's not healthy.

Protesting the protest sends this message to detractors. It's a no-win situation.

At least someone here is talking [with more than] a half ounce of sense.

I won't be playing any games. But that is cause I'll be somewhere where I have no access to any games.

On sort of a on/off-topic note. Total Biscuit did a video on Video game violence and tragedy. It was quite good actually.

Are film fanatics agreeing to not watch an films with shooting in them?

Didn't thinks so, considering that films probably influenced his actions as much as gaming did, which as far as I'm concerned is not at all.

How many copies of BlOps 2 have been sold and there has only been one case like this?

My maths tells me that there were much deeper issues than "he played a few shooters"

I think that the reason behind this is to show that gamers who, despite playing violent shooter games, care about what happened there.

I don't really care about this, media will find someway to put the guilt on games anyway no matter what we choose to do that day.

I'll be observing the ceasefire on Black Ops 2 with my riot shield.
I wonder how long that'll last, but it would be funny to see non violent matches.
People just throwing smoke and flashbangs, running around.
Kicking anyone who DOES shoot^^
