However I'm not asking which is better. I'm asking, because it's been brought up recently, if I'm "less skilled" because I sometimes use a controller while playing Titanfall.
Normally I don't use a controller at all anymore. I doubt anyone remembers, but I made a topic a while back stating that I couldn't grasp the skill necessary to use a mouse in games like Counter Strike:GO. However, since then, I adapted a little, playing games like Battlefield 4 and finishing the match in the top 3 almost every time.
The only game to end my streak of performing above most players has been Titanfall, with it's massive emphasis on twitch gameplay. My main fault is my inability to make very small, short adjustments to my aiming at a fast pace, which Titanfall pretty much requires with all the jumping around people do.
Because of this, I often miss unless I get the drop on the other player. Mostly I don't mind all this, however it does frustrate me at times. But I decided to use a controller for once, and I found that 9 times out of 10, I completely dominated the other team, and staying well ahead of my own team. It's been that way every match since I started using my gamepad, and it actually confused me. Most games I use a controller on PC for, I do...average with a controller. I grew up with controllers for games, so yes, even on PC, I perform well enough for my team. Barely below my skill when using a mouse.
However in Titanfall, I perform very well, but once someone asked what I was using, I was mocked for it, incessantly. They said the game allows aim assist, and because of that, my using a controller meant I was essentially cheating. I'll admit, from that point on, I felt almost like I was cheating. Is this really how other players feel?
I decided to really pay attention to the gameplay, aiming specifically, and there was indeed a very slight aim assist, however mostly on grunts more than pilots. The only thing it does is slow down the cursor when near the target, rather than snapping to the enemy like it does in something like Call of Duty. However, it was there, and a simple google search shows that the developers intended it to be there.
So I ask, if you met me in an online match, saw that I beat your team and scored the highest, would you consider me "cheating" or "less skilled" for using a gamepad?
Really this shouldn't be bothering me as much as it does, but I do have issues with people and being social, so anything that causes someone to look down on me...bothers me, whether I want it to or not.
