I played WoW alot for awhile and it was fun but when my computer crashed at one point and it had to be fixed, i wasn't playing it for awhile and once my computer was back i didn't want to play it anymore. It was deleted from my comp anyway.
I've been playing WoW on and off for some time. The thing that keeps me coming back is the social aspects. I started with a handful of my close friends when 1.0 came out and I was able to make a number of other friends in the guilds that I raided with; the kind of friends that I would be hanging out with on a daily basis if they didn't live on the opposite end of the country. I also love the competitive aspect of raiding (coming from a US top 10 guild myself).
Is no one but me a little scared by the OP's story? This guy's spent almost a year's worth of time sat in front of a computer playing WoW. An entire year completely wasted.
Playing WoW achieves nothing, and you're not ever getting that time back either. I appreciate all gaming is essentially pointless, but it doesn't suck away life on the scale WoW does... right?

Here's the thing. There are a LOT of things that you could spend your time doing in WoW. I have accumulated probably as much play time as the OP if not more, but I consider very little time being "wasted." You could spend all day playing the game and accomplish absolutely nothing, and yes, I would refer to that as wasted. In one day, I could earn a couple hundred gold and spend many hours raiding punctuated by killing a boss that places my guild in the world top 20 and US top 10. Are there people that play WoW that really do need to get a life? Absolutely. Are there WoW players that are actually able to accomplish something as part of an organization? Yes, but they are few and far between.
But these accomplishments all take place within a game world, nothing tangible has been won or lost except the time its taken to achieve them. Unless its the recognition as an excellent player you're looking to earn, you may as well have thrown small change at a wall for a few hours. The prospect of an MMO frankly terrifies and repulses me. Of course I have played them in the past and enjoyed them, but I have enough trouble when I get addicted to games that aren't MMOs (and not even the multiplayer, I mean just the dirt-trodden singleplayer campaigns). Also, I despise people, and believe my enjoyment of the game shall be ruined by them, which is one of the reasons I was tentative when I first heard about The Old Republic (I believe many KOTOR fans would've had the same feelings of waiting for a new KOTOR sequel and being told it would be an MMO - it just doesn't sound KOTOR). However, I have faith in the awesome story-telling might that is Bioware, and all the articles I've read so far lead me to believe that it shall actually work. Next up, I need a computer that can actually run a game that's post-2003.
EVERY game is a timesink. I've played Fallout 3 almost as much as I've played World of Warcraft, and all I have from that is a few mildly amusing stories to tell the handful of people in my life who would care. In any case, all the attempts during the years gave me too much pain and no support provided made me slowly back away from any more attempts. And as for sex itself, as much as it can be appealing, that is something I'd rather not abuse even if suggested (there was an opportunity recently which I turned down) because it's just another addiction which I don't want to belong to.
On the other hand if you'd see me IRL you'd realize that I'm not that bad of a person as many would think after reading this post
