I have come to the conclusion that sobriety sucks. Not just the Straight Edge notion of absolute sobriety that some of you here know I used to subscribe to. Being sober in any situation that does not absolutely require it sucks. There is never a situation where I think "damn, I wish I was sober right now" but there are plenty where I think "damn, I wish I wasn't sober right now".

Does anybody here feel the same way?

Also, it feels appropriate to post this here:

edit-
Today, for the first time in a few weeks, I have gotten a good night's sleep the night before. In addition, it's the first time in a few weeks I have been three days sober.

I don't intend to cease my actions, but I do currently recognize the merits of sobriety.

No. I like being able to think, recall, talk and otherwise act like a reasonable person.

There are plenty of things that leave you capable of acting in such a way. Things are just better.

Hell. Just drink a few shots of vodka. You can still participate in society fine and you'll just feel cool.

Now, I know this isn't a good idea for work or classes. Those are the circumstances I'm talking about that absolutely makes it impossible to not be sober. And I'm fine with that. But otherwise, if you can make things a little better: why not?

I like those things, too. I've never understood how people can even call it "fun" if they have to call 20 different people the next day to figure out exactly what happened.

Anyway, I hate to be "that person," but I think the mentality the OP has cited is what most would call addiction. Not good, just...not good. Get some help.

For me it's not a matter of how good I would feel, it's how I come across to other people. Alcohol does not make for good conversation and drunk people are not fun to be around. Ever.

Psh, who needs a drug like alcohol to escape from sane, rational thought when you have the internet?

I'm e-drunk, and it feels sooooooooo good.

Alcohol is my help. Little else worked, but it tends to get the job done.
You and me both, buddy. Most of these kids who tell you to get help have never touched the stuff in their lifes. They know nothing about drinking and being drunk. You always have a level of control, no matter how pissed you are.

Most of my life consists of working and then heading down the pub on fridays or saturdays. What else are we supposed to do at the fucking weekends? Tea partys? Book clubs? fuck that.

There have been plenty of occasions where I have regretted not being sober after the fact.

Maybe you should look at things a different way. Instead of "why don't you darn kids leave me to my booze!" claiming people are ignorant based on what you assume that persons age is, try "why do people hold the opinions they do?" Just a suggestion, buddy.

IMO drugs and alcohol only change an experience and how you feel about it. An experience isn't 'better' because of drugs, it's different. Though if you're relying on drugs to have a good time, you really should consider doing something else with your freetime.

Ehhhh, I like alcohol but not being drunk. I do get drunk on occasion (though not so much anymore), but I drink because I like the taste. I used to live right around the corner from a beer specialty shop. They had the most amazing selection...it was heaven. There are flavors of beer unlike anything you can experience from anything else. And that was a really expensive time of life. Good beer isn't cheap.

Don't get your panties in a twist. I was not referring to you. I don't care if you drink or not. The guy was told he should seek help because he now and again fancies a drink at, i'm guessing, boring social events. It's normal to want a drink now and again. Especially when bored.

I disagree with you. I think that if you need vodka to feel cool, you're doing it wrong. I think you've deluded yourself into thinking you are more yourself when drunk than you are when sober. I think nothing I could say here would change your mind, but I hope that you eventually rethink your ideas on sobriety.

If you think I'm an anti-alcohol fanatic, you should know that I had a beer with some friends a few hours ago, had a couple with some other friends two nights before, and will be joining other friends for the first tasting of their homebrew soon. I don't have a problem with alcohol, I just think it's unfortunate when someone thinks they need it to feel good.

Eh, I have to disagree with you, I hate not being sober that's why I don't consume any narcotics or liquor, why do I hate it? Simple I just hate not being myself and when I'm like that I don't feel like myself and it's the worst thing ever (in my opinion of course, seems most people seem to enjoy it), just how much I hate this? Well I have been stitched twice without anaesthesia, that's right I actually prefer the feeling of being sewn in than being high or drunk, though it's not really as painful as you'd think.

I didn't think you were referring to me, the original post was by Lilani. But yeah, I can understand that reasoning when you say it like that. Even if I don't support it. I hate it when a persons age is used to counter an argument and I got a little caught up on that.

I think this is the first time I've seen someone SERIOUSLY campaigning for people to "be drunk more often." Nothing wrong with getting drunk in an appropriate place at an appropriate time, but most people think people who think being at least a little drunk most of the day a good thing, well, are bad people.

As someone who's never been drunk before in his life, I can safely say I never wish to be drunk, ever. "Oh, how can you knock something if you haven't tried it?" Well, I've seen what it can do to people, and how it affects others, and I don't consider it worth the risk. It probably helps that I'm a loner type, though, so there's little pressure to socialize.

So if you want to get drunk, TC, then by all means, that's your business and your legal right (... you are 21, I assume). But there's no way you'll ever convince me that sobriety sucks. That's basically saying "being conscious sucks" and the only way to be happy is to be drunk.
