Quite the hassle, really. forcing one to constantly observe updates on their profile, only to realize, as they mature, that Bookface updates are meaningless.

Facebook: What I use it for:
It's good for a mass invite for partys or other events.
Talking to Family that are 8 hours away.
Mass sharing videos or news.

Facebook:What I hate:
I don't want my Granny seeing somethings I would post otherwise.
Games posting to my wall.
Other sites using facebook drives me nuts. I don't want ever site in the world to have my name.

People who have to be your friend and us it for validation. Not facebooks fault but meh.

I use facebook because I can keep in touch and talk to loads more friends, and it is good for organising things.
I also use twitter as well, not for posting things but for following other people.

Anyone who says that Facebook or similar are bad for socialising as just wrong.

I don't think its plain hate. Perhaps some share the view I have towards social networks such as Twitter or Facebook: There is nothing wrong about them if you have the urge to report everything you do to other people and you just can't live without knowing what other people do.

So why some people share this view? It is just because of privacy and social needs. I personally can manage without sharing something, or better, anything to the public. And I could not care less what some random semi-friends are doing this instant.

I have a Facebook account that a friend set up for me, but I very rarely use it. On the whole I don't have any extreme feelings about social networking sites, but I don't really understand how someone can spend almost an entire day on Facebook.

I don't come here for serious social interaction, I come here for goofing off.
And to talk to me!

OT: I use it to contact my friends/family who live across the country, as I just recently moved to the west coast. Plus, facebook and the like give me an easy way to set up events and stuff.

I like Facebook, you have to be aware of the fact it isn't a private playground but I find that using it to PM people and just look a pictures to be fun. I see it like talking at a bus stop, be sensible and don't forget it is a means and not an ends and it is cool.

Social Networking like Facebook has gotten me work, reconnected me with friends I hadn't seen in years and found new friends in my area I would have never met.

You can "exist" without social networking, but it does help. I mean I met my fiancee through a personals site so I can't exactly complain.

I love Facebook for keeping up with music. I follow an official page, and they update me on stuff like tour dates. If it wasn't for Facebook, I would not have realized that the day after a concert of Opeth, Devin Townsend is also playing. Two of my favorite artists, and saves me a 16 hour drive. People bitching about their lives I could do without.

What?! People are saying that a new thing will ruin society as we know it! In all my days on the escapists I have never seen that before...
HerbaWHAAAAAAAT!?

Hey wait, you still think 'social networking' is new? Then I got something that will blow your mind!

With this device, I can make phone calls from almost anywhere in the country! While moving!
Thanks for the video, no really it brought the lols.

And I agree with you on the cellphone connection and social networking.

You don't see anyone complaining about cell-phones do you?

Before you mention Facebook and their crappy privacy settings, I would like to clear up that I am not talking about Facebook but the idea of Social Networking in general.

Facebook just gets all the infamy and glory because its the biggest but now we are seeing some competition in the form of Google+ that I hear has better privacy settings.
