Another thing that seems to influence these lines of thought, is perceived attractiveness. I knew someone in his early twenties who would regularly date younger girls (~16) without many people voicing concerns. He was very attractive.

No more than a 2 year difference, if the girl is younger. Any more, and it becomes a bit creepy.
This. I've seen "relationships" that break that age-rule, and its never good. I know one girl whose 16 and she's dating a 21 year-old. Its just fucking weird.

If you were 19, 16 would be viewed as acceptable as long as the age of consent allowed it (as it does in most of the US and Canada- no idea about anywhere else). If 20, that would be pushing it, but it wouldn't make people too squeamish as long as:
A) The age of consent was 16- (of course)
B) You weren't too creepy about it.

I'd say 18. Apart from the fact that when that happens I usually assume the guy is using the girl for sex, high school and college are just two completely different stages of life. When you're in your thirties, the age difference doesn't seem so big, but if one person is still in high school then it does become a problem. However if I saw a mature looking girl nearing the end of high school with a college guy then I wouldn't think too much of it.

I would say 18 but if you are near her age anyway, what's the problem, but as a guy nearing 40, it would still be too young for me. If I found myself back in the dating game, I would look for a woman in her mid to late 20's as a bottom line but in reality I prefer them my own age.

Well, I'm 18 so 16 is a minimum. Age of consent and all that. I'd tap that.

Take the age of the person, divide by two, add seven. 18/2=9+7=16. Not entirely legal, but not that bad. It works from 14 (when people tend to start being interested in that sort of thing) to about.... late twenties, early thirties.

I am an Anthropology student at UIC and I was asked an interesting question by one of my friends today and I figured I would ask it here.

The question is if a guy is in college (say 19-20)what do you think would be the youngest socially acceptable age a girl could be for the relationship to be acceptable and why?

This should solve your problems.

maybe a 19 yr old could go out with a 16 year old, but it depends on the circumstances e.g. two of my friends are like that, but theyve been dating since they were both in high school together, so nobody really thinks anything of it anymore

I have the 1.5 rule. Maximum age for date = a person age multiplied by 1.5, minimum age for date = a person age divided by 1.5. Anything beyond that just seems way weird to me. And it allows for a larger amount of people over time.

Dude, Rule of Seven:

(Guy's Age/2)+7=Minimum girl's age

So, 19 year old dude can go for a 16 year old girl.
Shiiit! I'm just in my guys dating bracket. Doesn't he seem like a cradle snatcher...? (Btw, I'm 19 and he's 23, nearly 24)

Going by the "half your age + 7" rule its 17.

But it all depends on country and culture in my mind, but also situation you are in.

A 19 year old dating a 17 year old would been that they could have been dating ind high school. So I ask the counter question:

Is a 17 year old dating a 15 year old as "creepy"?

Though I don't think 19 year olds should go out prowling for 17 year olds, but if they started dating several years ago its no problem.

Any age as long as you can get away with it.
I'd say 18 at the youngest, but go as old as you want if you're into that kind of stuff.
