Yeah, agreed with most posters as a general unspoken rule our ages and down it's like "2 year gap max"... I'd push that personally with 3, not sure if I'd go for somebody 4 years younger than me :/. The only reason I would go for somebody younger is because I'm an absolute pedo I'm not very mature mentally, and I don't just think about relationships going to the bedroom. Having said that I've only dated somebody a couple of months younger and somebody about a year younger than me (same 'year' at uni). That's it.

I'd say my age "range" would have to be 16 - 25 maybe... very very maximum of 29 if they've only got some really good features. I'm 19 by the way.

Then again I've heard of people using a rule of "half your age plus two" XD.

Oh...
I dated a 15 year old when I was 18 (I was about to turn 19 though, and she was a way off 16)

A lot of people thought that was odd, including her mum who banned her from seeing me.
But after just one dance at a party and then a date she had decided she was in love with me and tried to off herself when her mum got in the way. Which made it quite awkward when I found that out after dumping her.

She seemed quite mature though...

I also dated a 16 year old, but that ended when she admitted to not knowing what a gamecube is, and tried to kiss me whilst the daily politics show was on. Some lines you just don't cross.

I think it varies from person to person, as long as you obey the rules your country lays out, most people don't mind. People will assume dating = fucking, even if you don't plan to.

I am an Anthropology student at UIC and I was asked an interesting question by one of my friends today and I figured I would ask it here.

The question is if a guy is in college (say 19-20)what do you think would be the youngest socially acceptable age a girl could be for the relationship to be acceptable and why?
The general rule of thumb is age/2 + 7. So 20 year olds shouldn't date anyone younger than 17, etc. It's not a hard rule, but it's pretty solid as a "creepiness" guideline.

Though there's definitely some legal issues involved.

Okay, so when you're in high school you can date people in the year above or below and it's cool.

When you hit 18 and up and if you're still in high school, you can date 17 and up.
If you're not in high school, however, 18 and up for you.

Well over here we do a usual rough 2 year rule for dating and a 3 year rule for snogging at parties and whatever. Not that I have ever got to excercise that but that is the usual practise. Although not everyone sticks to it those limitations are the norm.

Dude, Rule of Seven:

(Guy's Age/2)+7=Minimum girl's age

So, 19 year old dude can go for a 16 year old girl.
Does that mean that if the guy is 4, the girl has to be at least 9?

No younger then 18. Any younger then that would seem a bit...odd. I remember the time my cousin (16) was dating a guy who was 21. That was one hell of an awkward thanksgiving.
you think thats bad!!! my 17 year old sister is married to a 28 year old man....yes MARRIED!!!!!

and in the UK if you want to get married at 17 you have to have perents consent....and they gave it too her

My parents are ten years apart and my grandparents were seven, so I guess it's all in perspective. I'd say for them it's their decision. But as far as socially acceptable, I think probably only about four years difference. I had a friend that took a fourteen year old (when he was like seventeen) to the prom, and one of my friends now is talking to a sixteen year old.

For myself I consider anything around eighteen or nineteen to be acceptable. I'm twenty five and I think that eighteen is pushing it, but that it's not so weird a thing for someone of that age difference to go out as it would be for say, someone thats twenty four and sixteen.

Technically 16 is of legal age in UK, but I would avoid that at if at all possible.

17+

EDIT: My ex who is 18, is going out with a 26 year old guy...

Some might find this weird but i say that if your 20 [no more] you should be able to go out with any one 14 years or older [only if both are mature, both consent and both use protection]

hmm, 3 years apart i would say is max giving the scenario in OPs post, of course the older you get the age range increases.
