"And I am sure they have your tower, all nice and ready, probably clean, with several butlers there too. And I will be told to stay at the bottom and make sure no bad guys run up the stairs to disrupt your massage and spa bath."

"If I do my job right, the enemy won't even know what tower i'm in. And where in hell did you get the idea that sniper hides only exist in 5-star hotels? I have spent days at a time in some of the nastiest weather imaginable, unable to move because if I did, the sonofa ***** standing 20 feet from me would shoot my ass." Striker grimaced at the memory. That one hadn't been a pleasant trip.

Michael leafed through the dossier, trying to gain an overview of the op. He held onto the dossier as the group filtered outside and got a look at their equipment. 'Longer than usual operation'. The words stuck with him, partially because he wasn't sure what to make of it. Absolute worst case, as far as he could tell, would be three days from infil to exfil, depending on what kind of support the spooks could muster up from the local nationals. Michael didn't credit the Iranian military with an overabundance of ability, but after three days even they should be able to track them down. In that case, the teams chances weren't great.
So, three days at most, but if things went smoothly , they could do it in one. Still, three days...

He looked over at their available resources. Along with an array of weapons, there was the usual stuff: NVG's, IR-strobes, radios, GPS's, chem-lights, first aid-kits, hydration packs and extra water bottles, some energy-bars and powder-packets for energy-drinks, even a box of MRE's, a stack of maps, a heap of camo-netting and a bunch of uniform and civilian clothing articles.
The weapons-cache was a story of its own. Each team-member had brought his own weapons, but just in case, there were more than enough alternatives present. Then there were grenades, including flashbangs. There was a stack of claymores and C4 as well, and a crate each of AT-4s and M72s.

While the other guys were already making small-talk, Michael silently set about packing his bag.
'Longer than usual operation'... Water and an MRE (Sloppy Joes, not bad) was his first priority, along with a handful of energy-bars and -drinkpowder-packets. Maps and a handful of chemlights were next, followed by GPS. First-aid and radio went on his vest, NVG and IR-strobe on his helmet. He strapped an M72 to one side of his bag and a rolled-up piece of camo-netting to the other. Filled one pouch on his vest with grenades, another with flashbangs. He was starting to feel ready. Three days.

Never mind me, just making walls of text. Anyhoo, as team-leader, I'll give a short briefing once I know everybody's ready.

"Oh get over it mate, you're acting like a sheila! You think that's bad? Try being told to get a lot of men, stand in a line and don't fucking move an inch until someone does something no one cares about! Believe me, I have commanded team after team in defence, we don't have the luxury of hiding from bullets! We ARE the bullet shield."

After finishing his rant, Keal saw someone in the rear view mirror. He stuck his head outside and called, "Hey mate! You know where Michael is? Isn't he our team leader?"

David saw yet another member gearing up.
"OI! BOSCO! keep the guns in the case until we reach our safehouse...or whatever, don't want to bring un-due attention on us"

"Don't want any attention, to be honest. Attention gets people killed" Striker muttered under his breath.

Keal turned around. His voice changed suddenly, to a softer tone. "Shit mate, you actually lost someone?"

"Not quite, but a good friend of mine did get wounded fairly badly. He took a burst from an AK, but thankfully, terrorists can't aim for shit. I carried him out of the op zone on my back, and managed to get him medical attention in time. I think he owns a hardware store in Arkansas somewhere."

"Anyway, the past is the past. Lets just not have a repeat of that, and I think we'll do just fine"

All of the activated radios sudden have a series of static before you hear Colonel Stevens

Spartan actual to Spartan 1, just got off the phone with DC the CIA have got some co-ordinates for a known location of Axel. I repeat a known location, he has a small compound consisting of four building located a couple of clicks out of Orumiyah. He has a couple of his trained rebels there as protection and some pretty heavy fire power. Lucky for you bastards you won't have to go into the city.

The Colonel continues to give you the co-ordinates and wishes you luck.

Keal sat back. Time's like these he remembers ever damn soldier he lost. Ryan, Kelly, Liam, John. All dead. He still had nightmares about John. Friggin' terrorists might take prisoners, but they also like to make gruesome videos. Keal still remembers that day...

-------------------------------------------------------------

"Hey Keal, how's the dog?"

"Not bad, she's being looked after by my ma while I'm away. Damn, but I miss her!"

"Who, your mum or the dog?"

"Who do you think?"

John started to chuckle as the Black Hawk flew over. John looked up.

"Well, there's our ride!"

The four soldiers started to pack up their stuff when Kelly looked up and shouted, "What the hell's that?!" He was pointing at some kind of pole pointing up from a nearby ruined building. Seconds later, the RPG fired. Another two followed. The hovering Black hawk tried to turn and get out, but one of the three RPGs hit the cock pit, out right killing the pilots.

The fireteam ran to their positions, shooting at the terrorists now pouring from the building. The RPG fired again, this time gouging a chuck of building out. John looked up.

"That things gonna be the death of us! Kelly, on me!"

He and Kelly had leapt over the wall and ran at the building, spraying. They ran from cover to cover, closing in. Keal and Tim were giving covering fire. Kelly got caught up in an hand to hand battle, and pulled his combat knife out. As he impaled a terrorist, the dying bastard had lifted his AK and shot Kelly between the eyes. Kelly had just crumpled like a puppet without strings.

John didn't see Kelly go down, and over reached himself. As he reached the RPG building, a "Dead" terrorist had jumped up from the rubble and slammed John in the back. John had spun and sprayed bullets into the enemy, but another came up behind John and brought the butt of the gun on Johns head.

As John was dragged away, Keal and Tim were told to fall back and meet up with Team Foxtrot.

-----------------------------------

The two weary soldiers returned to base, too tired and sad to salute. As Keal stumbled into the commanders quarters, he muttered, "We lost two."

The commander had told him that he should sit down and look at something on the TV. As the TV flicked on, Keal saw one of the many terrorists yelling something at the camera, then turning it to show three men. The two gunners from the Black Hawk, and John. Keal watched, stunned, as the terrorist shouted some more and shot all three in the back of the head. John fell down, more lifeless than Kelly.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Keal shook his head, and he was back in the car.

"Sounds easy enough, lets get the rest geared up and go!"

"Right, Micheal, how you what to play this?"

Striker jumped out of the car and grabbed his rifle.
"I'm going to assume that Axel's compound is likely to need defending before too long here. Just get me up on a roof"
With that said, he grabbed his silencer and attached it to his rifle. "Don't want to make it easier to find us, now do we?"

I don't want to spoil your fun, but maybe we should halt proceedings a little, just give the rest of the guys a chance to write a post and catch up.

When you get to the compound that the CIA guy is at you will need to stop and wait for me please. That will be the main turning point of this chapter. Also remember that you're in Iraq so you still need to cross the border and stuff. So don't think that going all military is good for the moment, you guys can choose if you get shot at or IED goes off.
