Well since you have a big project on your hands I would absolutely say text only.

Other options:
- Mumbling (you could probably do it all yourself but always make sure it is not irritating)
- Flavor (just record a greeting, so you establish what the character sounds like but don't need to deal with everything else, you will need some random friends for that)
- Only important bits (one or two sentences of importance to properly establish the character, your friends can do it but it might not be good enough)
- Fully voiced (prepare to shell out some cash, doesn't haveto be much as you got about 90% of youtube waiting for their big break but they will need an incentive)

Remember that with the last two you not only haveto write but also direct people, dialog delivery is of the same importance as the writing itself, so if you don't get your ducks in order they will actually make things worse.
