I want to get a new DS game, but when looking through game stores for them, I found little more than casual shovelware crap, surprise, surprise.

So, what good DS games can you think of? Both for discussion and because I am seriously struggling here.

EDIT: list of my current games:

resident evil DS
Sonic rush
Castlevania Dawn of sorrow
Elite beat agents (don't judge me bro!)
Picross DS
Mario kart DS
Meteos
Orcs and elves
Soul bubbles
Super Mario 64 DS
Geometry wars galaxies
42 all time classics

I've also played and traded in phantom hourglass, animal crossing, and ninja guidan DS (sp?) to name the few others I can remember.

Well, Custom Robo Arena is pretty good for customisation and multiplayer.

Metroid Prime Hunters has an ok singleplayer, with repetitive bosses, but fun multiplayer.

I recently got Solatorobo. Very cliche in ways of anime style plot, but still pretty good kinda unique gameplay, and the singeplayer will last you a while.

I would also suggest Phantom Hourglass, since it's pretty good and makes good use of the DS.

You may want to play the Sonic Rush games, since they're mostly 2D, which I enjoyed even though I prefer thew early 3D Sonic games to the classic sonic.

What games do you like?

It's hard to make recommendations for a puzzle game if you like fighters more.

Well, alot of stuff. The only games I really tend to dislike as an entire genre would probably be point and click style adventure games or sport games.

I would like something with a little depth, though.

So, good, in depth, and on the DS.

Mario Kart DS is by far the best Mario Kart game ever and one of the best DS games imo
Pokemon HG/SS and B/W are awesome as well. Phantom Hourglass is good but a bit repetitive
I'm personally looking to buy Spirit Tracks, Bowser's Inside Story, Final Fantasy IV and, well, a 3DS

Depth isn't something handhelds are really known for. In fact, I'm opposed to many handheld games having too much depth because the purpose of the handheld is to play on the go, in a short controlled burst of entertainment when needed in a situation such as a line at the bank or waiting for a bus.

That being said, there is some depth to be found: you may want to try some RPGs. I personally recommend Dragon Quest IX, Bowser's Inside Story, Chrono Trigger, or any of the Pokemon games because they allhave enough hours to log into to keep you playing for some time. I was a huge fan of Professor Layton and Phoenix Wright, but in a nutshell they're basically linear adventure games with puzzle elements to progress the storyline with quite a bit of personality injected as well.

Geometry Wars: Galaxies is my all-time favorite DS game. Looks great, plays great, ties in with the Wii version (each, when linked, unlocks an additional playable galaxy) and has the pick-up-and-go arcade gaming that I dig when on the go.

...sure, lengthy stories, complex puzzles, an endless supply of characters are all great game elements but sometimes you just want to beat your last high score during the morning bus commute.

Here's the one DS game I always recommend in threads like this: The Dark Spire. It's a first person, party based dungeon crawler, and it's awesome. One of the best games on the system. The Etrian Odyssey series is great too, but The Dark Spire is less well known, and it deserves more attention.

If you want some depth, the recent DS rpg "Radiant Historia" is pretty good. It's one of the best paced JRPGs I have ever played (less than 3 hours of grinding necessary over a 40 hour play through) with an excellent story over other JRPGs. "Avalon Code" is also a good example, though the story isn't the best.

Some good puzzle games that are fairly good are "Hotel dusk: Room 215" and " nine hours, nine persons, nine doors". Both have deeply engaging, well developed stories, though they might be a bit too "point-and-click" for you. Nonetheless, they have excellent depth.

Hope there is something there that you like.

Well most of the rpgs/stratagy I listed have depth (advance wars makes me drool), but remember this is a handheld system. They aren't ment to have depth like a console or pc system.

Seriously not getting 999 while having DS is just a blasphemy, also Time Hollow is pretty neat. but those are more of visual novels and not to everyones liking... except 999 because its amazing...

999, without question. Ghost Trick is a lot of fun, too.

Time Hollow doesn't have that much actual gameplay, but it's interesting.

Touch Detective 1 and 2 <--straight up point and click adventures.

Lost in Blue 3

Onyx Oblivion

Borderlands Addict. Again.

Pretty much all 3 of the Castlevania titles on DS

Carrying on the Metroidvania tradition SOTN started proudly.
