Kinda surprised to not see this here. I actually thought it would be making some bigger news then just being 20 or 30 threads on xbox's forum.

Long story short, some Xbox360's are no longer reading game discs after the 1-19-2011, at all. No matter the game, it will just say 'Open tray' as if there is no CD inside. Some folks are saying DVDs and CDs still work (movies and music)yet their game consoles are not reading any games.

Personally, my brother's Xbox 360 Elite is perfectly fine and playing without any issues. My original Xbox is no longer reading any games, preventing me from playing well, everything but XBLA games.

Annoying, to say the least. Is anyone else at the Escapist having this problem? And any comments on how a Console Update that essentially bricks your Xbox from playing any games gets pushed to the world without some testing?

It was a stealth anti-piracy update that was only supposed to stop consoles from reading burned copies of pirated games.

If your discs are originals and your console isn't modded, you should contact X-Box support and send your console to them so they can look at it and prove it's not been tampered with.

Is the discs that can't be read are copies, then there's not a lot you can do because that was the the point of the update.

Hm that is quite interesting seeing as the Xbox was never tampered with, and already sent I believe once to Xbox before this, all CD's are legit. This is fairly annoying, and I'll probably have the joy of paying to have it shipped to them.

Thanks for the reply.
