Ok in my English class we have to do a research paper about a "teenage social issue" most people in my class did general topics like bullying, sport injuries and suicide, but I was able to say to my teacher that I'm going to do a research paper on how teenagers growing up with the internet have created sub cultures around it, a.k.a. Memes. That's right I get to do a 3 page research paper on Internet memes. The only problem I can see with this is that I don't know if know your meme would be an appropriate source, and hopefully when I put in my paper that a meme originated on 4-chan my teacher doesn't decide to see how reliable that site is. So escapists, what's the best thing you have been able to pull off for some sort of assignment?

We had to write a paper on conspiracy theories.

I wrote mine about how Porygon, the Pokemon, was being conspired against by the entire world.

I got an A. Most people did it on things like 9/11 being the government's fault or what have you.

I have two major scholastic achievements that I can remember right now.

Once was when English class was reading Henrik Ibsen's proto-feminist play "A Doll's House", and we were assigned to write our own epilogue to the play. Fanfic, basically. My interpretation of Ibsen's work takes place a century after the play ends, where the female protagonist has become a maniacal dictator bent on world domination and her misogynist former husband, kept alive through cryogenic suspension, is the only one who can stop her. He's played by Bruce Willis.

The other time I remember was when we had to write an essay on an important decision we were going to make in the near future, and I wrote a thousand word essay in class on whether or not I was going to eat a sandwich when I got home that evening.

I recieved full marks on both of these assignments.

I remember when i had to read that play I started to daydream about stuff like that happening in the play because I was so bored and I almost fell asleep about three times when we were reading it.

I wrote 2500 words of regurgitated buildup going through some guys head while he was running in a field randomly. It has one of those "mysterious" endings which is basically me not knowing what I wanted to do originally and just ending it on an easy note. Oh, and it is FULL of duke nukem and zelda references.

I recently did a persuasive paper (with one of my best friends as a partner) about a charity along with a presentation with the purpose of convincing our classmates that the charity was worth donating to in AP English.

The charity was Child's Play, and I very much enjoyed writing the paper, but my friend's presentation really hit home as well. It was a simple PowerPoint, but kind of made in an Extra Credits style where he would switch to different slides as I read the paper. It got quite a few laughs. When all presentations were finished we were asked to vote on the charity we believed to be most deserving of donations. Much to my surprise, our charity was right behind the first place winner.

I honestly didn't think it would do so great, seeing as how many of the people in our class don't play many video games, or at least to the extent that me and my friend do. I was hoping it would win though, because our teacher said the charity that did win would be one that our class would work to donate to for the rest of the year. At the very least, we had raised some awareness for the charity.

...Sure, it ain't very cool, but it's about all I've got.

know your meme might help a bit with your assignment. http://knowyourmeme.com/ :) good luck on a great topic.

My recent essays have been morality teaching/exploration in games (using mass effect, and MGS and others as examples), the fire temple of OoT for my writing strategies class in my game dev course.

Not that amazing but I got to do a film study on Moon. Even better that the teacher already watched and enjoy the film.

Sadly, I don't. When I upgraded my computer, I didn't transfer over my old school stuff because I didn't think I needed any of it.

It was later on that I remembered some of the fun assignments that I wanted to re-read.

I got set on fire instead of writing a book report.

That is in every way one hundred percent serious. It worked for a history report the next year.

I can say from my own experience that there's a LOT you can say about that damn word.

Final presentation and paper for an English class (sometime in high school, don't remember when exactly), I did "Appropriation of Western Culture & Colonialism in CoD4" and got an A. :D

Something about nukes being mainly a western thing and thus one being used against US forces being a huge crazy thing of appropriation.

I was able to write a senior in college level paper on Walt Whitman and quantum mechanics. Got an A too.

I am not sure if this one is quite as cool, but I got to write a meta fiction story as my final paper about a student who's searching for ideas to use in his own final paper, and it was all on the topic of Gothic literature, i.e. Edgar Allan Poe. So it was kind of a mystery story with meta textual significance and a Poe sort of styling.

Use a fucking question mark dude. Seriously, they just want to be your friend.

OT: I once had a class all about Harry Potter. All we did was read the books and talk about them. Best. Class. EVER. We even convinced the teacher to let us play a game of Quidditch at the end of the year.

I didnt do the coursework for my AS level physics, because the subject sucked, and I was dropping it anyway. On hand in day we all had to just pass it to the teacher at somepoint in the day. I went in with a mate of mine, and the teacher saw me, but then he left the room. My mate left his, while I started conjuring an excuse.
Turns out didn't need one as the teacher asked me 'where did your coursework go?' the next week. I went with it and said I left it on his desk. I have quite an observent mind and remembered there was a blue folder on his desk at the time, and said it was in there. He remembered the blue folder, and therefore beleived that it had been my coursework. My teacher was a bit of a moron, and got confused easily. As the week went on he looked and looked, but couln't find it, but beleived that I handed it in. After a few more weeks, he apologised to me for losing it, but said that he remembered me handing in, and that that he remembered making it. He then remembered that I had got a C (I was predicted an E, which is the lowest grade in the UK A-level grading system) and submitted that as my grade! I wasn't expecting to pass the course, but this grade added to my grades for the exams got me an E overall for the subject, which is a pass, and meant I got the qualification! Best excuse I ever made!

Well, in two of my English classes we had projects that were basically just "do whatever the hell you want". The first had to be about Phantom of the Opera, so we did a short film parody with puppets. The next one was over anything, so I did mine over film production and spent the entire school year working with three other students on an hour long film.

Best project ever.
