Howdy, one and all!

[in advance, if this topic has been done before, my apologies, I searched, but either there's no topics about this or my search wasn't specific enough, either way I couldn't find one.]

Now those of you who have seen me about on this forum know that I don't usually created threads.
But this is something that has recently come to light and I'm now curious about, I can't honestly help it; I'm a curious person.

The Scenario: I'm on Youtube, normally I don't bother posting comments... For obvious reasons.

But I was watching the Sonic CD intro video, Unbeknownst to me my comment became one of the 'top -rated' comments... I didn't realise so many people would agree with what I was saying.

Wow, look at that, not a single human, werehog, gun, extraneous character, colour-coded alien, knight, sword or any kind of bullshit at all, Just Sonic... And I really enjoyed it.

See Sega, this is what you're not getting...

I feel a need to say that this is before I'd played sonic 4 and I'd actively decided to avoid reading up on the title, because I'm a sucker for hype.

So as I said my comment became a highly rated one, so it's right below the video.
That was a month ago.

About a week ago some guy decides that my personal opinion is wrong and that I need re-educating to make my opinion right.

Clearly forgetting that personal opinions, can't be wrong...

So he starts blathering on about how Sonic Colours will be fantastic simply because:

'It'll be like the day sections in Unleashed, but for the entire game!'
(Personally I didn't much care for any sections of unleashed, day or night, but that's just me.)

I say to him that my opinion is my own and that we clearly have different ones that are both not wrong, he's entitled to like the games just like I'm entitled to not like them.

He then tells me that I'm one of 'those fans' who can't get my head around the new games and despise them because they're not like the 'good old genesis times'.
He also seems to think that I'm throwing 'SEGA's work back in their faces' because Sonic 4 wasn't exactly like sonic 3... (which I've never properly played).

Granted I enjoy the genesis games, but the last sonic games I actually enjoyed were on the Dreamcast, oh no!

Just to illustrate how wrong this guy actually is, I'll present you with a comic strip I made when I heard just how bad 'those fans were getting during Sonic 4 development.

[as a note, I don't if it was SEGA or Sonic Team that made the game, but at the time I was informed it was Sonic Team, if I'm wrong... Eh it's too late to change it now.]

Clearly, I'm in the latter group... Clearly

So when I then informed this person that I was in fact happy that SEGA are at least trying, but even so I couldn't bring myself to liking the new games...

He flat out just calls me a '******', thinking that'll win him the argument

Now, I know a few gay guys, sure I don't agree with the lifestyle, but to each their own.
Being homosexual doesn't make them any less people.

Obviously being called a homosexual on the internet is a common insult, and one that needs eradicating, but honestly I wouldn't know where to start on doing that, so that's not what this topic is about.

I want to know if any of you have encountered this kind of behaviour, whether it's directed at you or you've just witnessed it.

And of course I want to know what you did/said about it.

I personally responded with:

'You're so right, maybe we should get together and fuck some time?

My inbox hasn't had any emails from youtube in a while now...

So what's your method for responding to that unfortunate 'insult' of being called a '******'?
(or any other derogatory equivalent)
Or are any particularly funny or stupid incidents you've been a part of where someone has called your sexuality into question? Share and discuss them!

Basically I was called a ****** over the internet I asked the guy if we should get together and fuck some time, he's not commented since, what's your story on the subject?

Somebody on the internet called you gay?
My immediate response was "His opinion is invalid. Because he is a tosser."

My next was "Wow, I'm very English. Also a bit of a tosser, because based on one thing he said I decided he was a tosser."

Hmm...

Essentially this. Anyone who resorts to using the word "gay" as an insult instantly loses any and all credibilty they may have otherwise had...and also loses the arguement, if they were in one.

"Well, you're wrong there, but what would be so bad about it if I was gay?"

Because why should I take 'being gay' as an insult? That would just be an insult to all the honest, normal, hard-working, decent people out there who also just so happen to be gay. I may not be gay myself, but that's no reason for me to take it as an insult, right? That would be homophobia on my part, and make me just as bad as the idiot calling me gay in the first place.

Agreed. It's the non-Nazi equivalent of Godwin's Law.

Either that or: "I'm gay? Really? I don't seem all that happy. I think you need to re-take French class."

If someone calls me gay in real life, I tell them to fuck off. Not because I'm offended, but because they've proven that their immature enough to actually use it as an insult. They're dirt beneath my shoe, and I don't really wish to talk to dipshits like that.

Is that bad? Me, I wouldn't feel happy about it cause I have gay friends I care about and people usually call me gay and other words I wish not to type in front them which makes them uncomfortable and harrassed.

Short answer? I punch there ass.

My method is usually similar to yours (being Bi). It seems to confuse the insulter long enough for me to slip away unnoticed.
It's also funny to see them try to work out why their hilarious Oscar Wilde-esque wit has failed.

That is a really good way to put it. You earn this.

That is actually one of the best points on the subject I've ever heard and honestly it's an angle I've never really considered too.
Serious food for thought there, thank you.

Also, another good point. I don't know what it is about arguing with people on the internet, but I'm unfortunately one of those people who can't help it, I find it somewhat... Fun? I guess.

But in this case, it was long after the argument was taking a stupid turn that the homo 'insults' started coming into it. basically I ended the argument the moment he brought homosexuality into it with my response.

I feel like this may have been a ploy to get me to read your comic strip.

So in critique of the comic strip, the art was good, but the joke too specific, and too wordy.

Hope that helps.

As for the main presented question - its the internet, no big deal. Even irl, its not a big deal...

My responce to being called gay? Come onto them of course, in all my heterosexual tenacity.
