Hi escapists

A few months ago an old friend of mine borrowed a game of me (The Force Unleashed)
and he lost the disc (I have the case still)and he promised me he'd buy me a new copy of the game and he still hasn't.

I am not brave or strong so I haven't pushed him much because any threats I do make would be hollow, so I want to know what I can do to sort this out.

Any ideas guys?

HEM.

Subtly remind him? He may have just forgotten rather than be deliberately be holding out.

If he's a friend, you shouldn't need to threaten him in the first place.
Just tell him that "Dude, you remember that game you were supposed to pay me back for?"

Yeah that's a good idea but when I do remind him he just thinks it's a joke and tells me to shut up.
Well then politely remind him it's not a joke and you want compensating.

If he chooses not to give you the game back, then just cut your loss. The Forced Unleashed is a cheap game and you now know that you can't trust your friend. No more loans of any kind for your friend and you have precedence for why if he complains.

I wouldn't consider a reminder to be threatening. Just ask him. If he feels threatened, you must be incredibly massive, with a threatening tone. Hell, he may even speed up if you do.

If you need to threaten your friends to get something done... well then I'd question your friendship to be completely honest.

be firm, but not threatening. Just because he's a friend doesn't mean you have to let him walk all over you.

Your friend has done you a favour.

If you want to simulate the game, punch yourself in the face repeatedly.

It is the WORST game I have ever played. EVER.

Hmm... You need to go Goodfellas on his ass.

Be friendly to him, get him drunk, get a bunch of buddies, and when you get in the car have whoever is sitting in the back seat use a ice pick on him.

Can't take no shit. Even from friends.

Was that a little bit too morbid?

Edit: or, if you're feeling creative, find a way to bake his parents into a pie. Just one though, so you have something to bargain with if he doesn't comply.

the forced unleashed? you should probably thank him...

no, but seriously: just be direct. "hey, you borrowed my game, lost it, and said you would replace it. would you mind doing that already?"
if he's a friend worth having, he'll compensate you for it.

unless he's poor. if he is, cut him some slack, but remember that he owes you.

When it comes to the small stuff(you could replace this game for £5-6), friends live out of eachothers wallets. A drink or a cheap meal here and there are really no big deal, it basically evens out...or at least should.

Something along the lines of, "hey bro my brother/sister/friend was asking to borrow [game title], did you end up buying it yet" (or if you want to be less direct ask "Do you still have it at the end).

Its difficult to confront friends. Is it really that important to you, because some people can get touchy if you're too direct?

I'd just ask for the money. You won't get any where by being too soft on him.

Go get a bat, break his knee, and tell him if he doesnt get your game back or equal monetary value or you'll break the other and much more.

...

Or, you know, you could just remind him and say hey, hows it going with that game you promised to me?
