So I went to see 'Alice in Wonderland', directed by Tim Burton, a couple of weeks ago with low expectations and it was pretty awful. It did make alot of monies though so now he's being considered for a remake of 'The Wizard of Oz'. He just makes everything spirally and "dark". Now I'm quite biased as I haven't really liked one of his films since 'Sleepy Hollow' but I don't want him to piss all over 'The Wizard of Oz' too.
Do people agree or am I missing something?

I agree completely, he always does the same basic style. He's done good stuff, certainly, but he's overrated. That's why I like this parody:

He's got legions of fans behind him. I'm not really one of them but I respect his work. I wish he would quit with the remakes and sequels and make another original film though.

As for the remake of the Wizard of Oz, I hope he doesn't do it but there are worse options. M. Night Shamanlabob for instance. The twist would be that it was a dream the whole time...

...wait, that would work! Someone hire him, he's got a movie to film!

Totally agree. Someone make him stop destroying classics. Alice in Wonderland was horrible.

I second this.
While I understand that it was mean to be an adaptation/sequel, its still kinda bullshit.
As much as I love Johnny Depp, he should not have been cast as The Mad Hatter.

I still need to watch this, but if it is awful, then i shall forgive him, because Sleepy Hollow was awesome.
Oh, and 'The Wizard of Oz'....really bad idea.

Oh screw you...if you really don't like his films, don't watch them. There's no need to dramatically "stop him".

I for one enjoy all of his films I've seen.

Frankly i prefer the American Mcgee version of Alice...

The mood was already set; as a clinically insane person living in a sanatorium.

Well said op, I agree.

As I have said before...

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.171099-Poll-Wrecking-remakes

...Tim Burton is not the director he once was. He, along with Michael Bay, Uwe Boll, M. Night Shaymayalananlayn, should have his film making equipment removed and UN weapons sent to his home to confirm that he isn't deveoping any more WMTs (Whatchamacallits).

I think that sums him up perfectly :)
I'm not denying he has made some really good films, he just seems to have gotten lazy. Relying on the same visual style and techniques in most of his recent ones, not to mention the same actors.

May I ask a simple question of opinion?

Am I the only person who enjoyed Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland? I found the film rather enjoyable, so much so that I saw it twice in 3D. I found Depp's Mad Hatter to be quite entertaining, and the Red Queen was done very well.

All my opinion, of course. That's what movies are all about, right? Opinions? If you don't like Tim Burton, then don't watch his films. That's your opinion. But don't go around saying it was a bad movie, because, in all, it wasn't.

This pretty much sums up how I feel about it. If directors stopped making movies every time someone on the internet said they should, there would be no movies being made. Get over it.

I can't say I've enjoyed every single one of Tim Burton's movies that I've seen, but I've loved the vast majority of them. I also really liked Alice, but I do think he should go back to making more original movies.

Please yes, we need to stop Tim Burton. I liked Nightmare, I liked Sweeney, and when I was a kid I liked Batman, but otherwise the rest of his movies are subpar.

Uwe Boll is forgiven in my eyes, and it's all because of Postal: The Movie. :p

Plus, the other movies he's made are so bad that it's funny. Favourite lines from The House of the Dead:

-"You did all this so you could become immortal. Why?"

-"To live forever!"

... Hello retard! Now why woul you basically answer your own question? :p

Seriously, it's so bad that I both cringe and laugh at the same time whnever I see it. XD

The problem with Alice and Wonderland is that you go see it thinking it'll be a movie about a girl named Alice.
Then, you realize it's actually a jerk fest for watching Johnny Depp and that chick who played the Red Queen, who get the most screen time. They sort of forgot to revolve the story around Alice.

Sleepy Hollow was decent.

The idea of Johnny bloody Depp being the Scarecrow makes me want to puke. Will someone please slap him upside the head and remind him that he used to be an actor and not Tim Burton's fluffer?

Some things do not need to be touched - the Wizard of Oz is one of them

Oh oh...and you just know Helena Bonham Carter would be the Wicked Witch (/throws up in mouth a little). Bloody hell, she was once an Oscar nominee but now she is the epitome of cartoonish lazy excess and has become a caricature of herself.

Tim Burton has almost completed his transformation in to low brow hack. He needs to stop it now and direct something with a bit more substance and a bit less self-indulgent whimsical bullshit...

((erm...it is possible that I am feeling a bit aggressive at the moment)).
