I was watching late night stand up. Every time a black Stand up comedian it was the same act whites vs black or race relations.

Ok Escapist I'm stuck in Amrican comics so it might just be a nation thing.

Point for everyone that it's not thier whole freaking act

I will drop down and worship anyone who can find one who it's not in thier act at all.

Try Bill Cosby, I don't actually know for sure, but he would be my best guess.
I usually avoid watching clips of black comedians for that reason. It was funny when Eddie Murphy or Chris Rock did it, but those kinds of jokes got old and unoriginal after that.

I've heard that Red Foxx's standup was more raunchy/dirty than related to race, although i've never seen it. I'm struggling to think of one

Edit: Doc Brown is very good. He's British and his routine isn't about racial differences or anything like that. He does talk about being a black guy, but its not in they way we're discussing here, more about his experiences as a rapper (his rapping is genuinely very funny, similar to a rap Tim Minchin) and other things. I think he counts.

here's an early routine of his, he has gotten better but he was already quite good

Aisha Tyler would be an example to the contrary. She mostly talks about things girls are "supposed" to like vs what she enjoys, so mostly she talks about how much she loves video games, the internet, and sex.
<youtube=pLPRAqIlSow>
the closest she comes to discussing race is her talking about being the only black girl at her school growing up and saying "during black history month I was the exhibit" but she focuses more on being very tall than she talks about being black and her monologue about loving internet porn takes up most of the time in her act.

Definitely Cosby. He made it a point to avoid race in his performances.

Give Wyatt Cenac a try. I just watched one of his specials earlier tonight and, while he did do a few race jokes it was only a very brief part of his show (maybe four minutes out of an hour) and none of his jokes were the white vs black type.

From what I've seen, Chris Rock does a lot of race jokes, practically nothing but race jokes. He's almost as bad as Carlos Mencia in that department in my opinion.

At least Chris doesn't fucking steal jokes like Mencia does. Plus Chris is funny.
True, Chris Rock can be funny when he goes easy on the race jokes, but that goes for every comedian out there. When someone, regardless of race or gender, bases more than a third of their act on race/culture jokes they get boring really quick.
Look at Jeff Foxworthy for example, he mainly does Redneck jokes and he is almost painfully boring

Not their entire act? How about pretty much all of them, sure, a lot of black comedians use the race jokes to get the crowd going, but I dont think ive seen any black comedian that makes it his/her entire routine. That would get old very fast.

Well most "American black comic" stick to the race difference or references only they understand. Many British comic two of which are both Nigerian one female the other one male (Can't remember their names) are both brilliant comics and only use their background when the joke can be university understood by the audience, such as a comparison to a normal mother and a Nigerian mother. They for the most part will only drop this in on a rare occasion, but excluding this still have a great stand up.

Sadly, from what I've seen, that's what people want/except from their ethnic comedians.

If you're a comedian of Asian decent, then everyone wants to hear about your Asian relatives.

If you're a Hispanic comedian, then everyone wants to hear about immigration and hispanic/white issues.

If you're a woman, then everyone wants to hear jokes about your relationships and possibly about your woman parts.

If you're gay, then everyone wants to hear your jokes about being gay and the gay community.

So yeah... most comedians seem to be pretty pigeon-holed by what they look like. Even White as the driven snow comedians do that to a degree - Lewis Black looks like someone's angry grandpa, so he acts like it.

I think it has more to do with audience expectations than a lack of creativity on the part of the comedians themselves.

God, I hate Chris Rock. Almost as much as Lee Evans.

From what I've seen, Lenny Henry isn't too much about race.

We get the same thing with some white comedians *cough Daniel Tosh cough*

And I have to agree with most of the suggestions so far, Bill Cosby in particular
