So I've been playing Minecraft for about 2 hours now, and I'm not sure what to do. I've built different things in single player and walked around in multiplayer (not sure what you're supose to do in multiplayer too).

You mine, and then you craft. If you need a specific objective, try to build a giant stone fortress. Or if you don't have enough patience for that, try getting some diamonds, which appear near lava.

Discover. Craft new tools with what you find. Discover more. Craft EVEN BETTER things.

That about sums it up. Multiplayer is the same, just follow the rules of the server.

It's Lego with grinding. So much better than it sounds, once you get into it. It does sorely need a tutorial, though.

Do whatever the hell you want. I mostly explore the world. Spelunking is really fun.

Collect wood from trees. Craft that into lumber. Craft the lumber into sticks. Use sticks with lumber to make a pickaxe. Use the pickaxe to get stone and coal. Use the stone to build a shelter and combine the coal with sticks to make torches to keep it light at night. That's usually how I start out a game. I would highly recommend popping on to Minepedia for crafting recipes and help.

Oh, hell yes. It took me about 3 day to figure out what iron ore looked like. And i already had a stockpile i thought was just a different type of cobblestone.

Well you can mine, and you can craft. Obvious aside, the game allows you to create whatever you want. You decide what to do with it.

Erm, think of a dream home or ridiculous non-practical building.

Now go build it.

...That's it.

Now, go build me an upside-down greenhouse hanging from the underside of a cliff.

You really have to set out to do your own objectives. Some common ones are: making your shelter bigger, finding diamond, mining, going cave exploring, venturing out to see what the world has to offer...it truly is the definition of a sandbox game.

Unfortunately, at this point the game is extremely user-unfriendly at first, and you really need to use Minepedia/watch let's play's before you have a chance at understanding what you can do.

Mine stuff, then build different stuff.

I played a little, but my brother's the one who actually bought it.

It's tough having a family member addicted to the minecrack. They just talk about what they made all day, as if I care.

Find a tutorial online. You NEED to know how to craft all the different things, which is kinda complicated, unfortunately. Give it a go.

I would recommend watching a Let's Play or two on Youtube. It's hard to know what you can do, and thus decide what you want to do, without someone telling you or just randomly discovering it yourself. Also, http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki is your friend.

What difficulty are you on? Have you reached a point where you Creepers, Zombies, Spiders, and Skeletons are coming for you?

Congratulations - You're now trying to eke out survival in a hostile world, Robinson Caruso style.

There's no real goal to Minecraft, other than what the title implies. Mining and crafting.

If you're lost as to crafting recipes and the like, try the Minecraft Wiki. [http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Minecraft_Wiki]

It's an entirely open world sand box game. Within the constraints of the game, you can do whatever you want. That said, those constraints are fairly noticeable.

Akin to real life, it is exactly that which you make of it.

This picture sums it up.

You wake up, punch trees, make stuff, build stuff, mine stuff, make more stuff, build more stuff. It's insanely addictive, but it quite frankly has no real point yet. But that's the fun, and the essence, you have to make your own fun. If you decide to build a giant castle, you can do that. If you decide to go adventuring on the high seas, you can do that. If you decide to build an underwater house made of glass, you can do that. If you decide to build an underground canal system to harvest gun powder from creepers, then use it to craft dynamite so you can blow up the side of a hill, you can do that. It's almost like zombo.com.
