meteor= something that enters the earth's atmospher.
The meteor is only the trail following behind the meteoroid as it falls through the atmosphere. The rock itself is never called a meteor.[/science]

It's the top part of one of my ship's main cannons. I'll move it if it bugs you that much.

Nah, We found prothean stuff on Mars, and the way Obama is running it, we won't find it for a few hundred years at least. Shame too, I want to see Tali.

Actual Reply: Atlantis or some Nordic King's funny funeral vessel. THAT or a Soviet Spy Plane test that went horribly wrong. Hoping for Atlantis.

EDIT: Ya know, we're all going to come back in two weeks and find out the image was larger than we thought and it'll turn out to be a coin or something.

Duh! It's a death star, dummie!

In all seriousness, my suspicions about other intelligent life having visited Earth remains firmly intact. It'd be nice, but at this point I think it'd be rather naive on their part to think we wouldn't shoot at them. And we WOULD shoot at them. Remember, John Ashcroft had an office in the White House fairly recently.

Ah the unknown. You know guys, this is why we do science. We have some puzzling little thing in front of us, and simply cannot help but try to investigate it. Curiosity...it's a powerful thing.

Anyway, what this is? Meh, it's a USO (unknown submerged object) as of right now. My money is on it being a rock, but on the off chance that it's not, I'm hoping spacecraft. It's certainly not impossible, just really, really, really, really, laughably unlikely. Still a greater than zero probability though (if we take (0+e) probability, where e is vanishingly small)...

A giant frozen pancake, because I got hungry but misplaced it. Thanks for locating it for me.

This is how every science fiction book or movie starts. The discovery of technology resulting in a massive leap of our own tech resulting in interplanetary war.

Calling it.

A trick played by puerile aliens knowing full well that some day a ton of the fleshy pink people will go nuts over the spot where they crashed dad's saucer on the way to the intergalactic liquor store.

They're just messing with us now.

But if it was Prothean, couldn't there be reapers?

That is so obviously Cthulhu's Frisbee.

Also, Cthulhu doesn't show up as an incorrect spelling. His power is growing...

CAPTCHA: mistic 666

That can't be good.
Yup, Looks like Cthulu's Frisbee alright. This requires action.

Time to gather a bunch of fellow investigators, grab some elder signs, and some guns! We're going to Arkham to nip this in the bud!

...Why yes, I HAVE been playing Arkham Horror recently.

...Then again, we could just get a really good sorcerer to sap Cthulu's powers and force him to save the world first...That would work well too.

From what i saw, it could be a fifteen inch gun off a ww2 battleship. The ship could be hidden in the silt or rotted away leaving the turret standing guard.

Treasure hunters in Sweden have discovered something at the bottom of the Blatic Sea, 87 metres below the surface.

What it is is a mystery as of a yet and it'll probably stay that way as the treasure hunters have little funding to actually go down there and check it out. All that people know now is that it's round and has an impact trail following it.

So, what do you think it is? A simple aircraft? A UFO? Cthulhu's frisbee?

http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2011/08/is-this-a-ufo-on-the-bottom-of-the-ocean/
87 meters? I'm pretty sure you can get that deep with diving equipment, assuming ur careful when you come back up to avoid the bends. It shouldn't be that expensive at all
max 40 meters with normal diving equipment. And that's for super advanced divers. Max 10-20 minutes as well.
Sooo.... you would need a sub or some very expensive special diving equipment.
Actually, you wouldn't need one.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_diving
Aye accurate, this *can* be done with publicly available gear, it is rated to go quite deep so long as properly maintained and repaired, and I myself have been down to 180ft/55m with no failures. (Note I'm certified to deep diving with some side stuff towards more advanced certs, tho don't intend to go into technical diving)

The issue is being open ocean you do need a lot of equipment, the gear can be costly(dry suits, tanks, and a lot of gas mixes for the various depth needs), not to mention trained and experienced personnel who are okay with it. A big issue being that you'd need a rather fixed guideline/anchor going down, this is the ocean and drift would be bad not to mention throw you off. Bottom time can be extended with bringing a lot of extra tanks, but in such risky dives you have to have plans for worst case scenarios, and I don't know how long it would take to get someone to a decompression chamber(or ER) if something happened in the middle of the sea. Likely a ship with such facilities built in would be recommended, but costly.

In the end, the number one rule of diving applies: Do it safe, just because you can do it doesn't mean you should.

Atlantis? Or wait, I guess it's not the Mediterranean, so...yeah. I'm going with debris from the Forerunner prototype super-superweapon that Master Chief had to blow up to preserve the space-time continuum after the renegade AI who took control of the Shield World decided it would be a good time to...what? Don't look at me like that, haven't you played the new games?

Oh look, they found the Aperture Science Hydro-explosive Lemon Disk. Well good for them. /Sarcasm /GLaDOS
Seriously though, I bet it's a recipe for Greek Fire. Or something related.
Did anyone else notice that the thing surrounding the disk looks kinda like a guy with a beard?
