Recently, I've been playing a lot of Guild Wars, but only due to the fact that my mates are on and I might aswell, nothin' else to do. But anyways, something I've noticed in all my years of playing MMORPGs is this strange phenomena of
random high levelled players standing in the same spot, doing nothing, saying nothing, not moving a slight inch...
I say some ranger dude standing in a town, after I had my lunch and came back after a few hours, he was still there. Along with TWENTY others that I was able to count.

Anyone have an answer? :p

Haha I noticed that too. They leave the game running while they are at school or whatever. I don't understand it either.

Once you hit a certain level, you are awarded with awesome stuff the longer you can stand still.

There are any number of reasons for that, they could be in a guild or private chat, afk, checking out a store or auction house etc.

This is probably the closest you'll get to a true answer without asking the people themselves.

because in MMOs their are many raids, especially in small town and big towns. The reason why they stay there is as deffence and intimidation. DO you think a small group of 5 or 10 will go and attack some where theres a bunch of the highest levled players are all hanging around?

This is Guild Wars we're talking about. The PvP is a completely different game mode. In the main Quest part there is no PvP.

I thought you knew dude, when you get to the maximum level in an mmo the company that owns it comes and steals you brain, replacing it with a cybernetic one. Anyone who says they're the max level in an mmo is either lying or trying to get some new players so they can hoard an army capable of taking over THE WORLD! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

Sadly, it often is people so addicted to the game that they never sign off, and therefore will simply go AFK if they're sleeping or working or whatever.

The above.

Or they might want to regenerate health by standing around picking their noses, because they're stingy...

Perhaps they're just posing, going "Look at me! I'm at level 1337!" Yeah, doesn't change the fact that you're standing there like a lemon, wasting time, and probably an asshole.
