This is a fairly minor annoyance and i dont know if anyone else has noticed but i have have a bow and arrow and i have the tools and skills to make molotov cocktails and rudimentary nail bombs yet i cannot have flamming or exploding arrows. Perhaps this is introduced later on but it would make certain sections of the game much easier. Although it may diminish the "seriousness" of the game by giving joel a weapon plucked straight from rambo

What do you guys think. Would you use this or not?

I think it makes sense that Joel wouldn't use flaming arrows. I mean, he reuses them as long as they don't break on impact. I can't see why he'd deliberately go out of his way to make them unusable by setting them alight or making them explode. It's not something a survivalist would do.

Personally, I probably wouldn't have used them, except against bloaters (and eve then I would have preferred to just sneak by). My bow was my go to ranged stealth weapon. Setting things on fire isn't super stealthy.

Good point when you think of it from a reusability stand point. You can probably collect reuse about 50% of the arrows (if not more) but the arrows would give you a bit more range to explosives and fire as a one off.

Say for example it costs you the same amount of resources +1 binding (to attach to an arrow) then it would be fairly expensive so youd probably only use it against a big crowd or when necessary

The bow was indispensable in that there's a chance you can recover arrows.

On survivor difficulty, that's bloody essential considering how little ammo there is for firearms.

The game does a good job at avoiding cluttering the crafting menu. Adding a flaming/explosive arrow option would've only poluted it with something that's a bit too Rambo for the setting anyway.

Plus, imagine how the attachment would mess with the aerodynamics.
Could make for the shortest game ever. One flaming arrow that basically bursts at your feet....

... why would he use flaming arrows? What purpose would it serve? The bow was a stealth weapon, and I'm pretty sure setting the thing on fire eliminates the stealth. He would need pitch, as I'm not sure soaking the weapon in ethanol would do the trick. Flaming arrows were rarely used, even in the middle ages, despite what Holly Wood would tell you. They were only used after dousing siege engines in boiling oil or pitch. They're also less accurate.

I don't even understand how one would go about making EXPLODING arrows, especially in a post apocalyptic future with minimum resources. Even if you could find exploding weapons, the arrow would probably be your worst choice.

All these things may be somewhat cool looking, but The Last of Us was going for realism, and having exploding arrows would be both unrealistic and campy, so I don't understand why this would annoy someone. It's fine in an over the top action game that doesn't take itself seriously, but The Last of Us is a post apocalyptic stealth game, so the inclusion of these things would only make the game worse.

Flame arrows are less effective than regular arrows, unless you're trying to set the environment on fire. Since you need pitch to ignite, you have to wrap the tip in cloth, which reduces the penetration power, and the fire cauterizes its own wound.

The only useful fact I ever got out of Deadliest warrior. XD

I'm not sure how flaming/exploding arrows would be that much more effective than regular arrows. They take away stealth and re-usability, for one thing. And is it really that easy to make them? How would you come up with an on-the-spot, works-every-time formula for exploding arrows?
