I was going to trade in some games at my local store when they told me a new rule kicked in just yesterday. They said that if you trade in 1 game, you must buy 1 game. Same for 2 games, 3 games, and 5 games.

Fellow Escapists, how do you feel about this?

Wait, what?
That's complete bullshit!
What store is this?

Now that my initial shock and rage is out of the way...
I kind of understand why they're doing this. They do need to make some money, after all.
I still think it's crap, though.

And the sense in that is...? Did you question this? How much of a discount were you getting?

you should tell them a rule kicked in back in the dawn of economics that if they wanna make a profit they have to not fuck over their consumers

Well they obviously are loosing money buy buying everyones used games. It's a crappy rule, but it wouldn't have been made if people didn't abuse trading in games so much.

Considering how many customers other than you this will upset, they will most likely lose a fairly sized portion of bsuiness, dropping profit. They will notice this, realize it's because of their rule, and dispose of it.

Unless/until this happens, I suggest finding a new place to turn in games.

Wow, I am 'boycotting' gamestop for my own reasons. That is kind of low. Don't know how nation wide this is.

Kind of ridiculous, but I guess it makes sense from a business standpoint. I don't generally trade in my games, so I guess I don't feel as strongly about it as others might.

It really is a shame when local stores think the only way to compete with big chains is to out douche them. When will they learn that just puts them out of business faster. The reason Gamestop is the preferred used game retailer in my town is because while they are more expensive, they offer you a cash refund if you return it within 7 days for any reason. At our local stores you just get store credit.

This is why I have no sympathy for small businesses, some of them just do not want to compete and will then whine when they are going out of business.
