Something you can do for Extra Credits...

I've spent a few days trying to read everything I can about the conflict between Extra Credits and the Escapist, trying to figure out what exactly happened and as a result I've decided that I agree with EC.

I know I'm not alone on this but I am curious just how many others also support EC so here's what I suggest: Go into your profile and make your four visible badges Extra Credit badges. Keep them that way until the end of the month.

I don't know what kind of impact it will make, but I want it clear that I support all the work, thinking and passion EC has brought to the gaming community.

Well I'm starting to get pissed of with all the "RAWR ESCAPIST IS BIG EVIL CORPORATION" type posts dominating the threads, so I figured I'd but in a bit of level-headedness before it all kicked off.

This doesn't make things better, it only makes them worse, and honestly the last thing I want to see here is a split in the community over this. All I want is civility, not people drawing lines in the internet sand and asked to pick a side.

If you want to show EC support and that, they've gone back to Youtube so the best way to support them would to be watch their videos over there on a Thursday. Surely viewing figures there would help them out more than rearranging four badges.

This hardly justifies what it has done, but there's a good chance that soon there may not be a The Escapist for Extra Credits to be on in the first place.

In which case this issue would be a non-issue. Had there been no charity drive then the Escapist would find themselves in exactly the same place anyway.
I simply see no reason that anyone other than Alyson herself (whom all the money was donated to) can make claim on the money.

If this did become a legal issue, they would find she had total control over those finances. It's the laws of gifting- not revenue.

I'm well aware, and I think she deserves it all. What I'm saying is that when I read about the issues between EC and Escapist, after my split-second thought of "what dicks!" I started thinking "holy crap the escapist is dying."

I mean the Escapist knows a lot of people are pissed off at them, and I'm sure EC knows a lot of people aren't taking their side either. At this point taking sides doesn't help anyone since we (the posters) don't have all the info and are relying on heresay. Wait till everything is done (both sides have promised to make everything transparent) and then make your choice. But changing your badges isn't going to show anything, people don't really pay attention to them

I'm well aware, and I think she deserves it all. What I'm saying is that when I read about the issues between EC and Escapist, after my split-second thought of "what dicks!" I started thinking "holy crap the escapist is dying."

It is a surprising realisation, but I think it comes down to their expendature more than their income. The Escapist thrived back when it was only a few video blogs, but they've grown considerably since then. I won't state specifics but a lot of what the Escapist now hosts (and pays for the production of largely) is filler. They've put too many eggs in too many baskets.
But that's speculation.

Do you really think you have to show support by changing your badges? Most of The Escapist is supporting EC, but I think we could all really help by letting the situation simmer down. I mean, Alex and James are already trying to sort things out civilly.
