So im babysitting my nephew while my sister goes out shopping, and i put on Pinocchio for him, and since for some reason i couldn't connect to WoW, i sat and watched it. and i realized something, you never (if not rarely) see storytelling like that anymore in movies or cartoons, maybe im just old fashioned but it makes me sad that my nephew might never know what a good story is from new movies, but i guess thats what dvd's are for lol, your thoughts?

Agree 100%.
If you need anymore proof. Look at Bolt. That move was so broken, unfunny, and boring that I wonder if they just hired cheap malaisyan sweat shop workers to write the script to save money

Indeed, indeed. They just don't make movies like they used to.

Cartoons are the same way. When I was six people would complain that Road Runner was too violent. Now that same station shows anime with arms and legs flying off!
Anvil's on birds is bad, but 8 gallons of blood is good? WTF?!?

Well... It depends where you look. I'd say Wall-E had a nice story, and regardless, I loved it <3

Also, Hayao Miyazaki makes fantastic movies.

Take off those nostalgia glasses and look around!
i effin LOVE wall-e but it is true. it was pretty much once disney died a bunch of old farts came in and though "hmm what would make money?" and the whole thing makes me sick.

although. made for an excellent birthday cake <3

When i was younger of course those cartoons were good but of course they had some type of lesson that needed to be learned about friendship. Now i just watch anime still has some type of lesson in many animes, but also comes with violence language and sexual situations that can be quite humerous, and that is why japenese story telling rocks besides the rehashing of basically the same ideas. Wait oh no i'm sounding like an otaku. noooooooo

That's not a fair comparison to make; Nothing stands up against the classic disney films. Pixar comes close, but not quite as good.
And am I the only one who's noticed that Japan is the only country to take cartoons seriously anymore. (edit: aparantly not)

PS: that is an awesome cake!

They still make good films, nostalgia has clouded views a little, although with the advances in special effects and animation plots are getting steadily less important. Explosion movies wouldnt have succeeded in the fifties

How long has it been since we had a hand-drawn animated movie come out in theaters? I fear that the focus is going to steadily shift even further from plot toward technological skill...and explosions.

That Wall-E cake is the most amazing thing I've seen. Kind of. I want one. D:

But yes, nostalgia has a funny way of distorting our view on things. However, I won't argue that those cartoons such as Aladin and Pinocchio aren't timeless classics... Lion King was my personal favorite growing up.

Actually good films are a rarity in today's day and age with very little in the way of originality. Now I want to watch Fantasia, thanks a lot.

you hit it right on the head.. right now the focus is more based on pace, and visuals...nothing requiring time and effort on the viewer ( it's sorta the same in comics/manga too)
