I definitely think Disney has lost its way in terms of its films. It was inevitable, they simply ran out of source material. They're supposedly working on Rapunzel now, but it just feels too little too late. For my money, they peaked with Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Lion King was a good effort, but just felt like something was missing. After that, their entries just felt forced, like Hercules and Hunchback of Notre Dame. Seriously, what was next, Phantom of the Opera? (To be fair, though, I thought Lilo and Stitch was brilliant).

As for good stories in general, the fact is, there's only 32 plots that have been used through and out history:
The Lion King is Hamlet,
The Lion King 1 and 1/2 is Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (in concept),
Lord of the Rings is the Ring Cycle,
Swimfan is The Hand That Rocks the Cradle is Single White Female is Fatal Attraction is Play Misty for Me,
Grand Theft Auto is Pac-Man,
Star Wars is The Hidden Fortress,
The Savage Land is Pellucidar (Sauron is a Mahar),
The list goes on,

Some get mixed to create a little variety, but ultimately the craft lies in disguising the inevitable truth of 'borrowing', and that's not an easy thing to do. It definitely seems to be getting harder.

I have a longer list of old cartoon movies that I like compared to the latest ones, true, but there are still a few good ones showing up these days.

Wall-E and Finding Nemo for starters.

The reason there are more good old films than new ones is that there is about an 80 years timescale for them, while there is a few years for new ones. Plenty of good stories out there, like those that have been mentioned.

I would still like to see more "hand-drawn" cartoon films though, even if it is just in that style made by computers. The whole computer game style is getting a bit old

I watched the Hitman movie a while ago, not having any idea of the storyline I ended up watching the movie not knowing what was going on, so I just watched it through looking at people attacking eachother for no reason that I could make out, still a good movie just no storyline that I could work out.

But I agree withyou 100%
