Sometimes, holistic is better

Everyone knows one thing that's better when you don't do it the normal way. My personal favourite is adding a can of mountain dew to cake mix instead of the milk and egg, etc it says on the packet (What? It's a lighter and more sweet flavour, with just a hint of lemon and lime...)

What's your favourite rule-bending thing? (Yes, holistic medicine counts)

Mixing every soda in the machine in one cup.

Baking ONE big cookie instead of a dozen small ones.

Making Dagwood sandwiches. ie: ones that are too big to take a bite out of.

Sorry, you started talking about food and it was all I could think of.

Oh, I got one, being nocturnal.

I put Thousand Islands salad dressing on my hotdogs and burgers. Does that count?

I put syrup on my scrambled eggs. I don't think it is wierd but apparently some people think differently.

Well there is of course the good ol' PBJ sandwich, but that rule-breaking sandwich is so old and well-known that it's a rule all in itself now.

Also, how does Mountain Dew make up for the egg?

Coke + 7 Up + Fanta Blackcurrant = total winsauce.

@Cowabungaa: I don't know why it works, but it does. I know the carbonation acts as a raising agent, making it light and fluffy, but the rest of the chemistry/chefery is beyond me.

@Kimarous: That counts.

Never had the "Blackcurrant" and would have no idea what it would taste like. I would usually have some form of Orange soda in the mix instead.

My only rule: No root beer. Ever. Period. Does not mix well.

Most of what is mentioned here is anti-holistic. It doesn't mean bending the rules or adding your own flair, it means considering a situation as one whole rather than a sum of parts. Focusing on one special ingredient is the opposite of that. It's just what the word means.

Even so-called holistic medicine usually is just non-narcotic. Using dolphins to help someone with cancer is only holistic if it is in addition to several other medical, emotional, and spiritual treatments mean to help the body as a whole and not just individual symptoms. Using special juices or herbs or whatever as a holistic cure is a misuse of the term.

Sorry, I get testy about proper word definition and usage.

But, lest I be branded a jerk, I use mayo on grilled cheese sandwiches rather than butter. Try it, it's awesome.

@Josh: You're completely right. After checking dictionary.com (a step I perhaps should have taken earlier :p) I renounce 'Holistic' from the title of this thread.

SO SAYETH THE BROCCOLI KING!
