Michael Atkinson, I CHOOSE YOU!

Michael Atkinson uses "Video game makes son stab dad" attack!

It's a critical hit!

Video Game Industry faints.

Michael Atkinson wins!

That's a joke by the way.
Regardless, I'm sure the ultra-conservative will love having this new "ammunition" in their arsenal.
Still they will fail to see that such violent outbursts are NOT the result of the games themselves. The game is but a catalyst. That kid probably would have stabbed his father or someone else at some point, anyway. He probably already had a violent tendency, and you can't blame the catalyst for setting off a violent person. No one would blame a movie or a TV show like that.

woah... those Italian dad's are tough. I mean he took a 15 inch stab TO THE NECK and survived just fine.

If my parents give me a sports game for violence reasons I would just laugh and go "no really, what did you get me".

(in the extremely bizzare case that my parents really did buy me a game)

Well, I've actually heard that unless the carotid artery is severely cut, there's a good chance of not dying.

OT: Someone already made a PES joke, so I'll just say that the kid is crazy, but nevertheless, the media will say that 'videogames made him do it!!!1!'

People have been getting stabbed over games a lot lately. It's getting really ridiculous.
I know. Just because game developers are lazy and can't come up with anything new, it isn't an excuse for the players to try a little variety.

This proves that violent games aren't what drive children insane, no.
Sports games do that.
Also, this kid is a fucking psychopath.
Don't let Jack Thompson hear you say that!

Could you imagine the crusade against Madden? What will frat boys do without their manly, manly outlet? Handegg fans everywhere would freak out!

I don't get this at all... I guess the Canuck in me will never understand how people can get so pants-pissingly wound up over a sport that's just a little less boring than cricket. And a videogame version of it to boot? I mean, I could understand fisticuffs over NHL 09, but FIFA 09?

ok, footie fans, settle down... I kid... extreme fans of any sport (including hockey) are one of life's great unfathomable absurdities.

Anyway, I suppose in this case the parents are somewhat to blame - either they were too soft while bringing up Mario, or they had abused their son to the point where the father's advice (sarcastic or sincere? the article doesn't say) and switching off the TV was the last straw. Who knows, maybe dad had it coming to him.

Just wow. So if violent video games cause violence, what is the excuse for this game?

Beat you to it... Come on, step it up.

The fact he's called Mario is amazing though lol
It's-a me, Mario!

He's here to save princesses, jump on things and stab people in the neck.

Note: None of those things are related to being a plumber in the slightest.

I'd like to see them make a case out of this.

"As you see violent videogames..."
"It happened over a Soccer game"
"Ffffffffffff-"

Glad to hear the dad's alright; I really hate hearing these stories.

Though I worry about how anti-gaming politicians will use this. The kid obviously had problems, but I'm sure this'll be something they'll forget to mention...

further proof why FIFA is much better than NHL. Until someone stabs someone over NHL 10-11 etc. NHL will never reach the same heights... despite hockey being the better sport imo.

Well, insane as in Frat Boy in college on his ps3 not giving a damn about college, just sports.

And I will have to formally agree, seeing as how he acted so calm afterwards, made him all the more without morality.

Sheesh...I remember when me and my dad could laugh about us italians "not knowing how to fight". Apparently in the home country they know how to kill.

I think this is as good an example as any that even with parents that don't let their kids play violent games, kids can still be violent. It's not the games. It's the kids.

Granted the kid has issues but we're hearing only one side of the story and one glazed over by media at that. The father possibly could have insulted the kid, criticised him that rather than play the game he should be outside playing the game in real life, disappointment to the family, etc. etc. etc. Kid's still a bloody psycho.
