Honestly, I'd probably say the whole album (they only ever made 1 LP) should be listened to. Works well for relaxing or as emotional music. At least for me.
I'm sure people will get to the really well-known stuff, so how about something a little different. I'm of the opinion that you generally can't go wrong with Ayreon.
Easily one of my favorites, about a man using a machine to look back in time and witness the birth of the universe.
Probably what I like most about the band, their songs touch on some pretty neat concepts. The creation of the universe, flying into a black hole, the extinction of the human race by nuclear war, alien species, or even a man trapped in a coma having to deal with different aspects of his personality personified. In most of their albums, they go full-on rock-opera, with each singer playing a specific character over the course of the album. Just lots of cool stuff that I don't see a lot of bands doing these days, and I admit that I'm a sucker for a good rock-opera

Manowar has a huge list of great songs that should be heard, but the one at the top has to be Heart of Steel.

Some really good songs so far. And while I usually go for metal/rock, when it comes to songs everyone should
hear its hard to beat this one.

This one is more effective if you've played portal of course, but still excellent.
As for this one, I can't quite place exactly why it works, but it jut hits me like a sack of bricks each time. In a good way.
And then of course, this one is just awesome. Really Really awesome. Nobody will think less of you if you stop it at the natural stop at the 10 minute mark though. And I'll also throw in another one, if for no other reason than those first 25 seconds.
And this one is just too awesome to post on the escapist. The site would break from the awesomeness. It's a perfect follow up to that last one so please, give it a look (after the third one I posted. Seriously, if you listen to only one of the songs, have it be that one).
