Alright, it is a Christmas song, and it is as cheesy as Chester Cheetah's butthole, but I like it much more than most Christmas Songs these days. At least it's different. And the story is nice, cheesy as it is...
Basically a concept album and I'm giving you tons more than a song with a story here haha, but heck, I really enjoyed this and it was a pretty interesting science fiction/fantasy story overall. Also great if you enjoy your more older kinds of rock music.
Ayreon's "Into the Electric Castle" follows eight characters (each represented by a vocalist) who are pulled from different eras and cast into an unknown world. Utterly lost and without direction, a voice calls upon them, telling them to make way to the electric castle if they want to live.
Now I think it would be pretty questionable of me to link half or the whole album here from youtube (which is coughtherecough) so will just stick with my favorite song; a dialogue between a man from the future, a roman, and a knight as they try to make sense of each other and the environment. Its pretty darn rocking haha
To say it is just about that tragic plane-crash would do the song a disservice. While the incident is certainly a pervasive theme throughout, "American Pie" may also be about the damage popularity was inflicting on music, the incident at Altamont and its aftershocks, and the tumultuous decades themselves.
Since someone already posted Iced Earth's Gettysburg trilogy I'll go with the entirety of Jeff Wayne's 'War of The Worlds', here is a compilation of my two favorite songs from the album. Kinda surprised I haven't seen it mentioned yet.
Well Coheed and Cambria takes the cake without any argument able to defeat them. Since every album they've released has been nothing but an incredibly long story following the events of an epic, inter-galactic war. They have like seven albums... so top that.
The YouTube description is as follows. "Ten years before Silent Earth, the children of a lost war now fight to regain what their parents had killed themselves over. With his sons around him, Jesse Kilgannon and his Iro-bots continue the lost rebellion started by his lover Mariah. Manning the massive Jackhammer turrets, the small group attempts to fend off against an invasion by the forces of Tri-Mage Wilhelm Ryan, Jesse's hatred and fury fueling his vicious returning volleys."
I'd be angry at myself not to mention Alesana's Annabel trilogy. Which starts off strong with the The Emptiness. An album that starts with a man murdering his wife, goes on a killing spree, then blames all of his actions another, only to then be murdered by his wife when it turns out he was hallucinating the whole thing. Then the next two albums make no fucking sense and the two vocalist just just wrote without a care.
I could list more, but that sounds like a lot of work. So two will do.
