So last night while I was driving home from school, I was listening to the radio and heard the song "Kissed You Good Night" by the band Georgiana. It was cute at first, it talks about the guy who dropped off the girl he loves at home:
I dropped you off
Just a little after midnight
Sat in my car
Till you turned off your porch light
And that's fine, he wanted to see her just a little longer, and made sure she got in her house okay. And then the chorus starts up, and he goes on about how he's disappointed in himself for not showing a bit more affection.
I should have kissed you...
And then things take a turn for the creepy.
I should have pushed you up against the wall
I should have kissed you
Just like I wasn?t scared at all
Okay, what? "Pushed you up against the wall?" I didn't know this was a song about date rape. Like I get the image they're going for here, and pushing people against stuff can happen in the throes of passion. But according to the song up until that point, the relationship wasn't that physical yet. Hell he was too timid to give her a kiss good night before leaving, I don't think there was even a remote possibility of a romantic encounter, but here he is talking about shoving her against a wall.
Baby It's Cold Outside [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=009kRJKf9rg] also sets off my date-rape alarm. The second line the woman says is "What's in this drink?" and the entire song is her saying "I really should leave" and him saying "I really think you shouldn't." And again I know it's supposed to be portrayed as flirtatious banter, but that one just doesn't do it for me.
So, what songs do you know of that weren't written with the intention of being creepy, but end up coming off that way?
