Well I've been on a massive Fire Emblem: Awakening binge lately so this here music was the first that popped into my head.

The first two are more mournful tunes conveying the hopelessness of a final stand.

This second one more gives me the feel of going out in a blaze of glory.

Liking the Shaun of the dead juxtaposition :)

Not sure I could breathe my last listening to Bon Jovi.

In a battle to the end, against an unrelenting foe (Carnivorous Aliens, Zombie Horde, or Reinvigorated Conservative Party Activists) I'd have to go with some nihilistic industrial stomping.

Instead of picking a song to justify or celebrate my hopeful mass murder I would begin by asking what the beef that the "unstoppable army" has with little ol' me. Maybe I'm on the wrong side.

Mine, Windbag, Mine from the Bastion soundtrack
Tense, a tad somber, and feels like I wouldn't go quietly into the night.

Mine are probably a bit unusual, but in no particular order:

Animal I Have Become, by Three days Grace.

Feel Like A Monster, by Skillet.

Never Surrender, by Skillet.

Sick of It, by Skillet.

Fire it Up, by Thousand Food Crutch.

Hero, by Skillet.

My first choice would probably be Animal I have become.

If it was an unstoppable Zombie army, your beef would be exactly what they were after :)

This is (unless I'm wrong) a musical suggestion post, with a mind to celebrate defiance in the face of evil and insurmountable odds, whether real or imagined.

Hell, any of Rising's boss songs would work just fine for me. All of them are god damn amazing.

Fuck you! I made this thread four years ago, haven't posted in two and finally broke my "never reach 1000 comments" promise just to point it out.

Too easy... Jump into the Fire by Harry Nilsson. Amazing song all-around, but the bass de-tuning (starting at 4:43 in the linked video) would be the sweetest sound to go out to. ;)

Feels like a throw-back thread so I'll bite.

If I'm gonna be sent off it's to an entire orchestra, choir, and symphonic metal band.

Why you ask? I bet you are thinking "that doesnt sound like a final stand song". Well you would be correct except from one important detail....juxtaposition. people like frost and pegg are very good at this sort of thing. They will have certain music that doesnt match the tone. An upbeat cheesy 80s song like this as the theme to an intense final stand could actually work well

Here is a perfect example of this technique in action
If you were going for this angle I'm pretty sure this would be the perfect song for it.

For a more conventional approach there are lots of metal songs that could apply (like 50% of Manowar's discography probably) I'd be partial to "Ghost Love Score" from Nightwish.

For an action-style shootout: <youtube=ZVvjXJentik>

For an aliens-invade everyone-dies scenario: <youtube=U60NDnYidEg>

Dying in a last stand is not glorious. It's melancholy, it's depressing, it's horrific, it's a final ending. I've never really understood people's fascination with looking awesome as they die. It's a sad and tragic occasion, the music ought to match.

Amon Amarth's Under Siege instantly came to mind for me:

Then again, quite a few of Amon Amarth's songs would work very well in this kind of scenario.
Gotta go with Free Will Sacrifice. Under Siege is a perfect choice also, but there's something about the line "we're outnumbered ten to one, still I love the odds," that just makes me want to change into battle with an axe raised high.

Zombies are ideologically transformed humans - the NEETs of Japan have been called zombies, for example. So during food riots the starving people might attack those who are well-fed, but the solution isn't to murder them but to, you know, just give them some food to ease their panicked condition of closely approaching starvation. Of course, giving them food puts the well-fed people at risk of being not so well-fed - thus blowing the heads off of starving people is a favored solution, because "regular people" care so much about the well-being of humanity.

When humanity does come to an end, one song stands out to me by a 20th century prophet:

When the day is done
Down to earth then sinks the sun
Along with everything that was lost and won
When the day is done

When the day is done
Hope so much your race will be all run
Then you find you jumped the gun
Have to go back where you begun

When the day is done
When the night is cold
Some get by but some get old
Just to show life's not made of gold
When the night is cold

When the bird has flown
Got no-one to call your own
Got no place to call your home
When the bird has flown

When the game's been fought
You sped the ball across the court
Lost much sooner than you would have thought
Now the game's been fought

When the party's through
Seems so very sad for you
Didn't do the things you meant to do
Now there's no time to start anew
Now the party's through

When the day is done
Down to earth then sinks the sun
Along with everything that was lost and won
When the day is done

Final stand? You imply that I will lose this impossible fight?

EF THAT! LET'S GO KICK SOME ASS!!!

I made my XCOM Army listen to this song before every battle. In unrelated news, most of them died (repeatedly).

April rain by Delain

I actually listened to this a lot when writing a character's last stand in a book I hope to get published within the next year or so. Needless to say, he kicked a lot of ass at the end. And no, neither him nor I would lose our last stand. :)

Uncle Daddy: Rise Again (I'll keep coming back for more)
Adele: rolling in the Deep (for the pre-battle music at least. Tell me you can't picture loading ammo to that song.)
