Never played it on Dreamcast, figured I'd download the trial now that it's on XBLA. Not that it's a bad game, but that made me seriously motion sick. I know other people who got that with Descent and it never bothered me, but Sonic in 3D reminded me of an unpleasant roller coaster with the difference being I could quit at any time. Will definitely be sticking to 2D Sonic games from now on.

I used to like sonic...

Then again I was 10 :p

Oh, that one. Yeah I didn't particularly like that one. Sonic adventure 2 battle was the 3D game that I liked the most. Also its story(yeah, I know word that is pushing it) was one of the better ones as it included the Shadow colony ark plot...

Well, in my mind, while not perfect, Sonic Adventure was one of the series first ventures into 3D, and while some parts were ok, it overall wasn't that great. I would highly recommend picking up Sonic Adventure 2 or Adventure 2 Battle if you can, its a vastly superior sequel.

And if you got motion sick from that...don't pick up Sonic Unleashed. Though they finally got Sonic formula perfect in the day stages.

Quite interesting that you consider a predominantly rail-based game as a 'perfect' example of 2D Sonic in 3D graphics.

Sonic Adventure 2 wasn't bad, but mainly because of the Chao Garden, and those things are fucking cool.
The 10 year old part of me agrees with you sooo much. I spent hours in those damn gardens :p

I've never liked any Sonic games that weren't side scrollers.

Yeah, call me old all you want. I've got THIS:

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is damn fine game indeed...one of my favorites..

is that how the game play really is in Sonic Unleashed?..because i know the storyline sucks and i've the parts were he turns into a werehog are tedious and kinda boring...but the normal running parts looking effing awesome...

i wanna play that now just so i can test my reflexes...

This might be considered blasphemy to some, but I hated every single Sonic game ever made, including Adventure. HATED them. Liked the first four, though.

Puke?...

OH MAN, you got sick all over my internets...that just doesn't come out.

I liked Sonic Adventure, admittedly i had it on the gamecube, was about 16 and connected it with the DS game for Chao based tomfoolery...i also never finished it but you know what games in your childhood are like.

I like the Sonic franchise in concept, but not so well in execution, as I haven't played many of the games to begin with.

However, there's a guy on the internet who's designing a hypothetical Sonic the Hedgehog game; his main inspirations for his ideas are Sonic Adventure 1/2 and some of Robert McKee's stuff.

http://sonicdesignproject.blogspot.com/

His explanation of the plot for Sonic Adventure 2 is very interesting: apparently, the game was actually reinforcing a kind of false dichotomy until the end, when the heroes and the bad guys had to team up in the end game. He has studies on the past Sonic games as well, so the site's worth checking out.

I love this game and it's sequel. Kinda surprised to see the games getting so much hate, actually. I always thought they were considered the last good Sonic games. Eh. I still really love 'em.

As for the motion sickness? Never really occurred to me.

Sonic Unleashed wasn't that bad of a game. Very harshly critisized sometimes. There were some glaringly bad design decisions, confusing mission hubs, and boring scavenger hunts. But the levels for the most part were very fast paced, fun, and playable. The werehog levels were bland and mediocre, but at least tolerable.

I beg to differ, Sonic just moves way to fucking fast in Unleashed. You need to be able to complete the stage without memorizing every bit of it. You could in Sonic Adventure, you can't in Unleashed (especially the later stages).
Sonic Adventure with just the Sonicy bits and no gimmicks (like Heroes team nonsense) would be about as good as Sonic will get in 3D.

Sonic Adventure was okay at least and adventure 2 wasn't bad (it wasn't good but it wasn't bad). Sorry to hear about you getting motion sick. Sonic runs fast is really the only point of him so if the quick 3D motion makes you sick then there goes that.

but shadow was only awesome when British, but all the non dreamcast versions made him non British >_<
...

I am British... I have only ever known shadow as being British...

hmm... I never thought of that and what he would be like in other regions :/

Guess I am lucky :p
