Sonic Generations Gets 8.5/10 from........ IGN

Gameplay is great, though ALL of Sonic's friends show up.

I think they are all unplayable though, so I guess just skip the cutscenes.

I was half-expecting you to also be complaining about a lack of Sally Acorn. And for someone who likes Robotnick so much, I'm surprised you can't spell his name properly.

I just want the Sonic games to return to a time when they were good.
It's a game about a cartoon rodent that runs fast, it's amazing how Sonic Team can constantly fuck it up.

And considering I'm not a furry, I could care less about Sally.

I WAS a fan. Around Sonic Adventure 2 I jumped ship, but it was a franchise I used to heavily enjoy.

Besides I have every right to complain, the changes of have made the games horrific.

I'm very apprehensive about an IGN review, but if an actual decent Sonic game comes out...well shit, I might have to actually go out and buy it.

And set little furry critters free from robotic prisons.

And how are Sonic characters stuck in an era while Mario is not? Aside from, you know, Sonic trying to seem too cool and "badditude" and it come off lame and corny? You can get away with the "not working" trying to be cool thing with Sonic. But getting rid of the character like Tails, Amy Rose, and even Cream the Rabbit and interaction between these characters, is pointless.

Some of the characters need tweaking. But not Tails, that's for sure. What's wrong with what character and why?

Well Mario is timeless there is nothing to tie him to a distinct era while Sonic has, as you pointed out, that corny badditude vibe that was cool in the early nineties. It isn't now... it just isn't

Lets take Amy Rose for example. She is technically Sonic's stalker. He doesn't even like her in most of the games and she tells everyone that she is his girlfriend?!? How does that not even bother you? It's actually kind of horrific.

I really do think that the Sonic Team saw the excitement that Tails and Knuckles generated and thought okay then lets just add more and more. At this point there are so many Sonic friends that I can't even keep track of them anymore yet Princess Peach, Luigi and Yoshi are iconic.

Sonic would sell more games if they just started with simple return to the old style games with Sonic on his own collecting rings. Mario doesn't need friends outside of Yoshi for a few levels to make a successful platformer because the gameplay is more important than the story. Lately the Sonic Team are so distracted with their ridiculously complex and bloated canon that they can't make a decent game to save their lives.

It just makes me angry and frustrates me that NO ONE else in the industry points this out to the Sonic Team who are just blithely making bad games. It's actually saddening that Sonic has been so badly abused as a franchise.

Seriously, Sonic Heroes, Shadow The Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic Unleashed were all a horrific mess.

Seriously, ever put your biases for both the Wii and Sonic Team aside and tried Colours? It's about the same length as any other Sonic game - maybe shorter, because it isn't as padded, and like I said, there are only six characters with names: Sonic, Tails, one of those aliens they're saving, Eggman (or is is the bad guy's name being 'wrong' enough on its own to make everything about it bad?) and his two assistants.

The DS version gives bit-parts to the friends, though, so definitely the Wii version. No night-time stages, the 3D bits are like 2D bits with a slightly different camera angle...Heck, even Yahtzee says it's at least better than Unleashed.

I have no idea if the review is correct or not because I haven't played the game yet, but its premise always sounded good though and I'm pretty excited for its release.

I have to dispute the review on one thing though, I could listen to 'Escape from the City' about a million times its a tune and a half!

Look not saying I wouldn't give the game a chance, but I don't plan on buying a 200$ system for a single game I might possibly enjoy.

Though I will say if Colors was on the 360 or PC I'd have tried it.

Speaking of which, it would be interesting to see them in some kind of Tales of Symphonia or Dragon Age esque conflict between them little furry critters and humans in some alternate earth where humans and critters aren't getting along.

And fixing the corny "badditude" problem means fixing Sonic. And maybe lessening a little bit of Shadow-esque characters in their "screen time". But not lessen and mute other characters in general.

Girl, I'm used to Touhou. We have lots more characters than Sonic believe you me.

I do think that a return to simple is a good idea for now. But I don't think that having many characters is a bad thing for a franchise. And that's all I'm saying, really. I think that a game like this is refreshing. But I wouldn't want Sonic Team to never go back to having fun with characters again.

And I do think that they could do more quality with who they have.

Personally I think that would be kind of horrible. If they are going to use more characters they should keep them within their universe. They don't make any sense alongside humans. But at the end of the day I think it should just be Sonic and Tails because that's all they need and then concentrate on making good levels.

No...they really aren't. Stalking someone isn't a good thing. It makes me completely dislike one of the main female characters and quite frankly makes her look pathetic. Is that the kind of female character we want in games?

It's probably better written, voice acted and the art style probably doesn't make them all look the same.... To be fair they are also hard to keep track of becuase to be honest who would want to play the horrible messes of games they are placed in.

Agreed reduce the bloatedness and up the quality... and get rid of those godawful voice actors.
