My thougts below, only my opinion but I´m quite adamant about it.

To put it simple: The game takes what was good and ditched what was bad with all the previus Sonic games. Though to be sure, play it with a 360 controller.

There is something here for everyone: those that like Sonic in the newer "Adventure" games and those that prefer his incarnation on the Sega Megadrive sytem.

As Classic Sonic the platforming is simple, yet fun and compelling, something akin to Mario. Classic Sonic´s controlls are simple, suited for his tested foes and his true 2D-levels. If you like me were born in the 90´s (91 infact) you remember the crab robots, wasp drones and those sharkbots in the first level of Green Zone. Their´e all there, reinvigorated and sprused up with new aesthethics that are delivered unto your monitor of choice as you sit with your jaw on the floor. Atleast on the PC.

As Adventure Sonic, the levels are polished, your failures are more due to your own inability to use the tools the developer given you, the controlls, than poor level design. You blast through all your favorite stages, polished for high speed. Your dash along the windows of a skyscraper at supersonic speed, jump off, and continue racing on by homeing onto the next enemy.

Also, do you remember the Boss battles from Old Sonic, and the Duels from Adventure?, do you remember facing of against Metal Sonic?. The boss batles work will are solid and enjoyable.

Something about the controlls:

You can tap R1, and L1, to do a quick sidestep, good for "changing lanes"

Youn press the R&L trigger to make a "slide dash" like in Mario Kart, for turns at high speed.

The remaining controlls are a mix of the best of new and old Sonic.

About story:

The story is simple and does what works best for a Sonic game; Not pretending to be a Final Fantasy game. The game even pokes fun at previus games like Sonic and The Dark Knight. Theres also some references like "that water makes me nervous", ah that Sound Of Dread as Sonic has been underwater too long, and your 6-years old. . . .

"Ahem"

The voice acting is good, The "new" voice for Sonic finally found the right tone. Actually he and the game´s writers keep the dialog just as long as it should be. This goes for the rest of the characters. Even the usually Cringeworthy characters get decent performances, so your you´l get no trip to the dentist from this game.

It´s like those games you got with your console, containing lots of old sonic games, just much, much better. In generations you have, Classic Sonic, Adventure Sonic, pinball and lots more. Theres actualy a metagame that you Platform in as you select stage. You have to make it to the new area to enter the stage. When you´r done you challanges to do, and when THOSE are done, you are rewarded with concept art you have to race after and catch, in this Meta-platform-level.

. . .There are alot of them. Around 7 for one stage. Each Sonic gets his own set. None of them are shallow, each throws a wrench in the mecanics of the level.

So far I have done 4 levels, + 2 bosses, and 12 challanges in around a day, so.. . .

4 # 7= 28 # "= 56.

There IS Content In This Game, And It Is Fun To Play

I played my copy on the PC.

I haven't gotten this game yet, but I hear great things, so I may very well pick up my first Sonic game since Adventure 2 (not counting the DS port of the Megadrive/Genesis games).

Yeah, I know it's good. Positive reviews have been FLOODING in, and the new demo was FANTASTIC.

>: ( Sadly though, I can't get it until tomorrow. And I can't even play it until I'm done this damn group project (due wednesday). And my teammates seem to think that because I'm the official "proofreader" it's perfectly normal for me to have to re-write everything they wrote because they seem to be working for the "department of redundancy department" and- *rant rant rant*

...I honestly cannot wait to get my claws on Generations so I can vent this frustration through highly aggressive speedrunning.

If eternalnothingness actually gives this a fair chance, I'll eat my shoe. If I wasn't saving my time and money for Skyrim, I might actually pick this up. I tried the demo (2D Green Hill Zone) which was not bad. A bit too fast for me to keep up, but still fun. And CURSE YOU SEGA FOR PREYING ON MY NOSTALGIA!

For me 3D Sonic is the most Engaging, zipping around the landscape at supersonic speeds, The 2D style doesen´t have that, that "ZOOM" aspect.

Same here. Wait, did he actually want Sonic to keep pretending to be Final Fantasy? I haven't kept up with him.

Do you think the Sonic Cycle has been broken?
It was broken by Colours. Or at least, Wii Colours. The DS version had a final boss which is also the only time you get to use Super Sonic, and it isn't Eggman but some ancient, unspeakable evil--OH DEARS.

Here a taste of the gameplay, with a bonus music track:

LOL, Sonic Boom. I just hope they kept that in the EU/JP release as well...

Yeah, I thought he may have authored this thread. Damned infamous at this point, isn't he?

OT: Sounds good. I'll probably pick it up around February. Spending money's tight for me, and that's when my birthday rolls around.

I'd HIGHLY recommend it.
From what I've played- the new Sonic parts are just like the Sonic sections from Adventure Battle 2, and the old ones are similar to the great old school games.
I don't follow the story, so I can't say if it is any good or not, but I love the game so far.

I absolutely love it. I actually went out to get it day one after hearing so many good things about it, but didn't quite believe it would be as good as it is until I was playing it and what do you know - it's amazing.

"Just you wait," I told myself, "Unleashed has some fun levels too, and then just got painful as you went. Don't let this game sucker you in and then do the same." So I kept cautious, but found myself getting further and further into the game and loving every level. There's a few annoyances here and there, but they're so minor in the face of the sheer fun I'm having with the game. Speed Highway is one of my favourite stages from Sonic Adventure and I think they actually made it better. That stage is so much fun in Generations, both in 2D and 3D.

It's such a great game to jump into and have a blast through a few levels, load times and all.

I think I'll certainly pick it up. I have other, higher priority games to get, but I'll get around to Generations.

I felt kind of bad that this game came out right around the 15000 other high priority releases, but it is totally worth it.
Plus, the PC version is $30 and works fine with an xbox controller and is a good port, so I can't complain about it at all. I fear that bad timing will prevent this game from being as widely recognized as it should be, though.

Well thats another november title to put on my list. Only thing is I loved the adventure games but the adventure stages seem to be more like the ones in the secret rings instead of the platforming and puzzle levels from adventure and especially adventure 2. Not that I would hold this against Generations, I love both kinds of play, I just enjoyed Adventure more than the secret rings.

I'm really considering getting this game. I've heard nothing but great things, and the gameplay does look fantastically fun. My last Sonic game was the second one, so hopefully I'll get the hang of it quickly.

I'm not a big fan of that music track. Could you have imagined if they took the old tunes and remixed them: Orchestral/Rock versions of Green Hill Zone music would have been AMAZING!

It does seem a little hard to see what is going on at some points, but that was always the case in the original sonic games.

I am really impressed. This is how to make Sonic 3D, I hope they keep this model going.

Still waiting for mine in the mail. Can't wait.

I haven't REALLY enjoyed a sonic (console) game since Adventure 2. Colors was meh, good but not great.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. So were Sonic Colors and Unleashed (a bit less so). Give 'em a try.

If the game is anything like the demo I played on the PS3, than I could very well see myself buying this.

have to agree, it is awesome in everyway.

one pet hate, why can't you do the light speed dash on all coins like in Sonic Adventure 2 :(
