Have you guys played Sonic Generations yet? They fixed Sonic. They made a god Sonic game again. Hell, they made an AWESOME Sonic game. Even the Modern Sonic bits are fun to play, and it has my personal favorite special stage out of all of the Sonic games (fighting Metal Sonic). We all thought it was impossible, but they did it!

Did you ever think this could happen? What other dead in the water game series from the past would you like to see revived, if any?

Captcha: totenc rules

GO TOTENC!

EDIT: Personally, I didn't like Adventure, Adventure 2:Battle, and Heroes. I haven't played Colors, but it doesn't seem to have received the general positivity that those who have played Generations are giving it, so I am hesitant to call it Sonic's comeback. As for the 2D games, like Rush, I don't really think those can be a great revival in the way that a full-fledged console title can. Therefore, I stand by my claim that Sonic Generations is the title in which they truly fixed Sonic.

Okay, at the risk of sounding like a fanboy, why does EVERYONE keep forgetting about Colors? That got almost as good a response as Generations, yet everyone either keeps forgetting about it or neglects it. And don't even get me started on the Advance/Rush series.

Regardless, I agree with you. During the past year Sonic Team has come to their senses and has started delivering the goods. No more werehogs, swords, guns, vehicles, and all that other unwelcome crud. Just Sonic, speed, and platforming. Hell, they even went above and beyond by replacing the crappy voice actors and writers with (mostly) competent people. Sonic is truly back and Sega has learned its lesson.

And while the fanfare hasn't been exactly quiet (I've seen plenty of topics here concerning the game, and most of the reviews are in the 8 range), Sonic's return hasn't been met with the grand festival I've always imagined either. That's probably because it's been released alongside dozens of other high profile games. Heck, it was released on the exact same day as Uncharted 3.

It's been out for three weeks. I'm really not sure why you haven't heard of it, it's certainly gotten a fair bit of coverage in the gaming media.

EVERYTHING is being overshadowed by Skyrim right now. It's a shame, but the truth.

I, for one, am glad to hear they made another good Sonic game, but I won't be stepping out of Tamriel for quite a while to enjoy it. Maybe in 4-6 years...

meh so after 10 years a playable sonic game gets made. too little too late. sonic has gotten to the point where you can't just make a good sonic game to have people notice. you'd have to make a game that can go toe to toe with the big hitters like MW3 or Skyrim.

don't get me wrong, its nice that sega has finally managed to make somthing playable after 8 fails in a row but i'm still not convinced sonic is worth caring about again. make a couple more good games and mabey i'll come around.

I agree. Personally there are plenty of games out there that I actually want to play, with perhaps a bit of innovation. And I wouldn't trust that Sonic with innovation for a second.

Personally, I'd play Sonic Generations over MW3 any day. I love platformers- shooters, not as much.

but would you play it over say...mario or ratchet or clank?...basically think of a platformer game or series that you love then ask yourself: would you play sonic generations over that. if the answer is still yes then you must really like this game.

The thing about current Sonic is that he's finally found his own groove: speed that requires twitch reflexes, levels that switch flawlessly between 3D and 2D, and he's stopped trying to tell epic, grandiose stories. Also, I'd definitely play Sonic Generations over R&C: All 4 One: one is the return-to-form of an icon I love, the other is a badly flawed mess of something that used to be a really good series. So I hear; I don't own any Playstation anyway. As for Mario, Generations is cheaper than most Mario platformers and the thing about Sonic's speed? It's addicting...

Edit: Since there was nothing else coming out at the time I was interested in, I was kinda pumped. However, I decided to wait for the reviews, pre-ordered another couple games to get some mileage out of my 3DS, one thing led to another and now I have to wait until my Christmas money before I can really consider getting it. And since I'll be getting it for the PC via Steam, since I can't get it any other way...it'll probably still rock, and I do have a (non-360+USB) controller. And I did love Colours. Now all we need is to take Classic Sonic's gameplay almost directly from this, a story with a similar tone (rather than trying to be Final Fantasy again), a few creative new levels and voila!~ Sonic is back. They'll have to finish the Storybook Series, though, and that might turn people off...

...That's my thoughts that aren't directly connected to what the other guy said.

Well, I guess that explains it, since this is pretty much the only gaming website I go on, and it's all "SKYRIM HWOAAARARRRRR" (not that I dislike Skyrim or the recent surge of Skyrim threads, but that ad on the bottom of the page is very annoying).

I'm hella excited for it. But, it came out right before everything else came out.
Even as a Sonic fan, I have to admit it still falls lower on my list of "AWESOME GAMES I MUST HAVE 2011".

I'll definitely check it out though, I loved Colors and more Sonic games like it is a blessing.

As long as it is not MW3 I could care less. XD

Finally a new good Sonic game. Now it could have only been better if they let Classic tail follow Classic Sonic like the old days :/

I'm planning to get it soon, but it's piss cheap for PC and damn expensive for Console, so I'll wait for the console price to go down.

Sonic Adventure 2: Battle - 2002
Sonic Heroes - 2004
Sonic Rush and Rush Adventure - 2005 and 2007
Sonic Colours - 2010

What the hell people? To hell with your ideas of a playable Sonic game. 10 years my ass. There are about 2 and a half games where people almost unanimously agree on that sucked which I haven't listed for those reasons, and I still liked one of them.

Well... a lot of people stopping giving a damn about Sonic a long time ago. And some of the folks who do still care tend to care a little bit too much, if you know what I mean. Other people just never cared to begin with.

Finally making one playable Sonic game just puts him on the level of other decent games, of which there are actually quite a few. There are significantly more players on the field than there were twenty years ago.

Basically, nostalgia only gets you so far.

It's a great game, but sonic hasn't really been consistent with his good games lately. People forgot about him since he's considered washed up to most people.

I think that sonic generations should have waited a little bit longer, and some 'sonic is back' marketing and then it would have probably been covered a LOT more.

Not to say that it hasn't been covered. It definately has, and it is a great game. Also, consider it was released shortly before skyrim was...

It looks a bit interesting, but I have trouble actually caring because A) I was never good at classic Sonic games, and B) my interest in the franchise completely waned after Sonic Heroes. If I ever get the hankering for Sonic, I'll just break out the Adventure titles again.

all terrible games as far as the gaming community is concernd...with the exception of the sonic rush games but i'm convinced they only reason they don't suck is because sega (at the time) couldn't figure out how to a 3D sonic on a handheld so decided to rehesh the old formula.
