I'm sorry to say it, but it's been time for a while. Sonic was left brain-damaged when he flew into the polygon ceiling.

I think it's time to take Ol' Sonic behind the shed and put him out of his misery.
Unfortunately, I think that's probably the best thing to do.

I was never into the story of Sonic at all. And what's more, the original 2-d games were FLAWED, in my honest opinion. Monsters and obstacles flew at you from off-screen WAY too fast to dodge them if you don't know that they're there beforehand. Not being able to see things before they hit you makes it like trying to play Odin Sphere without the transparent map in the top-right. (anyone who's played it knows what I mean)

If the Sonic team takes it back to its roots like in Sonic Rush and adds a mini-map similar to the one in Odin Sphere, perhaps it might work. Maybe they could make a GOOD, NEW Sonic game for once. But probably not. They haven't made a single game recently that doesn't seem like a good old fashioned Sonic fan circle jer-- I mean... uh...
:) yeah.

Sonic & Mario can take a gun to eachother's heads & pull the trigger on the count of 3 for all I care. Both fell out of my favor when they went 3D.

Yes it is.

That's all there is to it... Sega are making little money off of it and they should focus on the Total War series in my opinion.

Looking forward to Napolean!

Its sad because there's so much wasted potential mixed with the deep power of nostalgia just waiting to spoon-fed to its target audience. They just keep molesting what he once was. I have hope for Project Needlemouse. Then again I had hope for Sonic the Hedgehog (200x(I forget the year)), Sonic on Wii, and Sonic Unleshed too. The they added Sliver, lamps, genies, swords, and hedgehogwolves into the mix (I refuse to say werhog (which means man (bear*) pig)).

*Lol

I abstained from 3D games until 2005 because they used to make me physically ill & had no interest in those kinds of games at all when I got over it. Now I'm simply sick to death of Mario & Sonic fanboys & if you kill the source, the fervor eventually wanes.

No, of course not, not a chance, sonic deserves at least ten billion chances, poor guy give him a break, it's not like he was ever popular, all you people are just bandwagon jumping, you should all be bashing left 4 dead 2 for being released too soon,Bad Company 2 for not being Modern Warfare 2 or games that haven't even come out yet, no-ones doing that, and those games fucked up so bad that anyone who made them should be killed and their families killed, and the ground where they stand be salted so nothing ever grows, but not sonic no, give 'Sonic does something that rips off another game instead of being what the other games previously established' a chance, and if that games shit, give 'Knuckles and Amy Real time strategy' and if that games shit then repeat the process until you die of old age.

Project Needlemouse seems to be a return to what made Sonic good.
What made Sonic good was a mixture of technical platforming, ring collecting, and attempting to maintain momentum through the level.

We don't know whether any of that will be present in the new game. Most likely it'll be just a 2D game like the 2D sections of Unleashed, Rush, or Advance, which have all the same flaws as the 3D games, too many deathfalls, cheap enemy placement, and noninteractive sections that make levels rely on trial and error, and poor or no real exploration or alternate level routes.

Seeing as they rejected EVERY SINGLE FUCKING CHARACTER with the exception of Sonic, that's a good sign. Sonic Unleashed was extremely close to achieving something, but the werehog stages destroyed it.

The same thing was said about Sonic 06 and Unleashed.
GloatingSwine got the point and after "Speed returns" flashed in the trailer like a big fuck you to the fans I am quite skeptical about this.

If Project Needlemouse is a failure, I can still see a decent future for Sonic games, but there is only really one way that can happen, which is to release small 2D sonic games as Download-only games on PSN, XBLA, Steam etc. Because I can't see anyone paying full price for any more new Sonic games, except maybe the real fanboys.

OK, I have never played a Sonic game, save about five minutes in multiplayer for the one all about Shadow being good or evil... I don't know, whatever. Anyway, I do know that the old games were awesome, but it seems like after the SEGA Dreamcast, Sonic started to lose heat. I think by now it can die peacefully, but they won't let that happen. In my opinion, if you don't have any fuel left, don't tend the fire. I say let Sonic die quietly leaving a fresh memory of awesome games rather than spoiling the franchise and letting the market drown the game itself. Unfortunately for Sonic fans, it seems like the recent games have been, excuse my language, pretty shitty. What do you think, Escapist?
Moviebob did an interesting and entertaining two-part assessment on Sonic. Check out his Game Overthinker stuff, if you haven't yet.

And Sonic needs to go the way of Old Yeller.

I personally think that if we were to give him one last chance Team Sonic should just realease an old style 2-D sonic game the same way they did 'em on the Sega Genesis. But they release it as a $15-$20 Xbox arcade/PSN/Steam downloadable game

It'll never happen because there is still money in the series and that makes it practically undead.
Yeah, I can understand that, but how long will the dwindling materials for Sonic be appealing to the market, and how long will there still be money in it? To me, Sonic just seems like it sort of ran out of good material after the platformers were replaced by other games. My question is should we let it go off with dignity, as I think a lot of people would rather see Sonic as having been good all around or should it go down pathetically, being remembered as good and then horrendous.

I think Sonic, Mario and Zelda need to be axed. It's just getting terrible
Are you kidding, Zelda hasn't lost any of its flame. If you mean the DS games, yeah stop making Wind Waker-esque games, but other than that the Link to the Past formula has lost none of its quality.
