I kind of suspect this is their way of bowing to public pressure to put PS2 compatibility back into the PS3: If you want it, you can get it by buying this TV. I'm not saying it's necessarily the right way to do it, but I think that's what's going on here.

Sony: Figuring out how to screw you out of money because we can.

Will continue to watch to see what other scams Sony can come up with.

Oh great. Gaming goes all-in-one.
That's the cheapest I've seen all in one's for TV gaming, but I don't know what the NES/TV prices are. I know the Alienware TV set was expensive.

Somehow that whole concept doesn't sound right. A TV can't be backwards compatible to an old gaming platform, can it? It sounds like either you couldn't plug in a PS2 in it and now you can or it is a gaming console that now can play its older counterpart's games.
Nah, it's a PS2 and a television mashed into a single housing.

This has been a pretty common idea for years with VCR's and DVD players, but... Doing it with a games console is a little strange.

Why can't they just ad BC back into the PS3?

Yeah it can play PS1 games, but the PS1 doesn't have Sly Cooper. Or Jak and Daxter. Or Ratchet and Clank.

I mean, come on. [http://www.southparkstudios.com/clips/104359/i-mean-come-on]

.......this is why i bought the 60GB........ seriously, I find it funny, but at the same time where do they think of these stupid ideas.
"Well your PS3 may not be able to play your PS2 games, but with this new television which is probably smaller then the one you usually game on, you can play them on your tv in full low-def."

I fail to see why they think this would be a good business venture. Buying a brand new tv just to play PS2 games? Wouldn't that be several times more expensive than buying a used PS2 from one of a million different places? Amazon has the slim one new for $100, used for $54. Tell me Sony, novelty aside, why should I spend a few hundred dollars for a new tv (and a small one at that) when I could get a standalone system for $50 and play it on any size TV I want. Just for the sake of argument, lets add in an upgraded component cable for better video, also on amazon for $6, and shipping. That's still only ~$75. What are they hoping to achieve here? Really, someone help me out here because I'm baffled as to why anyone would think this was an idea worth sinking money into.

So they glued a PS2 to a small LCD TV, and it costs $300.

You know, the same price it cost me to do the same fucking thing at home.

Fuck you, Sony.

PS2s are like $90 (Canadian, anyway). That's not that expensive. I'm thinking a PS2 and some other 22inch TV will be cheaper than this thing.

I'm pretty sure all attempts to stick a PS2 in something (including the PS3) have turned out to be more expensive than just buying a PS2 on its own.

Am I the only person that sees that Sony isn't trying to sell a TV with PS2 compatibility? They're trying to pitch selling an existing product with another existing product in their existing product line. This seems to be more of a 'hey lets try this and if it picks up momentum we'll see about a longterm commitment to hm... lets say a 50 inch flat screen TV built to run PS3 games and Blu Ray movies. The idea of a TV like that is epic.

PS2 + 22" HDMI @ $320? That's not that bad of a deal in a way. Obviously they still should add it into the PS3.

So Sony decided in light of lagging launch sales of the PS3 to discontinue the backwards compatibility for PS2 on the PS3... wait, what?

Well this is one step closer for sony to rerelease the updated PS2 software emulator to the PS3.

Fact is. If you have the source code, original specs, original firmwares and two plus years to refine what they had already built and every other resource not to mention an army of geek minions at your disposal getting over the major hurdle of "The emotion engine is hard to replicate the sync timing between processors for an emulator which makes software emulators run buggy and why the emulator didnt work well on PS3" would be cake.

Cut to the quick. Sony has shown they in fact have the ability to do this in a software emulated environment. They simply are withholding it, which Im assuming within the next year in a major system update it will be enabled on all versions, so they have to do less in converting games for the store.

Seriously, Im not condoning piracy but if a bunch of enthusiasts not getting paid and doing it just to prove it can be done, can do it on PCs then there is no validity to the argument that the organization who owns the product and has the resources and manpower to do it, cant do it correctly on even the slim PS3s.

Edit: so yes, its all about the money.

don't we own both a ps2 and ps3 already if not an Xbox and a 360 or whatever combinations you have. so this is unnecessary unless you haven't had the privilege to play a ps2 and you just got an apartment on a new guy salary
