Seems like a good idea but if it isn't wireless won't it have to have loads of adaptors? Which means replacing looking for a specific controller with looking for specific adaptor which will be smaller and easier to lose

I prefer my controller to have actual buttons on it, also going to run into problems of the touch screen not responding half the time, then you need to buy the special screen covers.

I'll stick to what came with the console in the first place, thanks but no thanks Sony.

If they can make it work, this will be very cool and money-saving.
Definetly. Also great for parties when you always lack that one controller!
Where the hell do they always go??? I should have around six GameCube controllers by now.

Neat... but aren't virtual buttons one of the banes of iPhone's games? I personally saw this in the virtual knob in Mario 64 DS, but I have heard about virutal pads on some igames didn't really fill the void. Part of the problem is you're still tapping on a flat surface, and thus have no tactile response from it.

The concept is great. The touchscreen, not so much. I take great care with my DS screen, and I still go through screen covers fairly quickly. Controllers have to be even more rugged. Touch screens are known for many things, but durability isn't one of them.

Plus, I prefer tactile feedback. I don't want to look down to see what I'm pressing.
Do what I do and use a cotton bud as a stylus to stop scratching up the screen, but not a cheap cotton bud, go for a top of the range Johnsons and Johnson (a family company) cotton bud. Only the best a DS can get.
The problem is that I generally use my DS on the road, so if I carry a cotton bud around with me, it'll probably get shoved in my pocket get dirt all over it, which I doubt would be good for the screen.

I love how many people are shooting this down even though it will be years before the thing even exists. Because clearly you all are experts in the field am I right?

I'm pretty sure pocket fluff isn't as dense as cheap Korean plastic.

I imagine it'll work about as well as my touch-screen phone, which is to say "hardly at all". But a system controller with hard-buttons as well as a touch-screen input integrated, so you could have DS-like controls on a console, or alpha-numeric input when needed? That would be awesome.

Normal pocket fluff, no. Mine is a different story.

If that image is the real patent image, I gotta say, that thing looks absolutely horrible.

Touch screens? Sorry, but no. My Ipod touch has too many fingerprints smeared all over it because of a touch screen, and sometimes the controls are iffy, because my hands are naturally sweaty. Besides, what's wrong with a pair of joysticks?

Does it also play on EVERY game console in the universe? No.
Then it is not a universal controller.
