Captured my thoughts exactly. The 1080p that come up on my TV only to revert to 720p when I play a game makes me sad as well.

I think this si a good decision. Sony Consoles have a habit of sticking around, so this will probably be just like the PS2.

A better title to this thread might have been "Sony Announces the Obvious: No PS4 Anytime Soon".

I mean, seriously. They believed in the 10-year lifecycle for the PS1, PS2 and PSP so staunchly that they kept making games for the systems after people STOPPED BUYING them.
That, and they only JUST started turning a profit with the PS3. Plus, gaming systems don't even need much more power/graphical advancement at this point, the current PS3/Xbox 360 tech can probably last at least another 5 years... though I wouldn't be surprised if the tried to get us to buy a newer console sooner than that.

On top of the profit thing: isn't this the generation where we learned that better graphics don't push the system? Sony won't put out for a PS4 until it feels it can outdo the PS3 substancialy and cost effectively on multiple levels.

I think the PS3 is an amazing system that still has a hell of a lot of life in it. I don't see any reason it needs upgrading if it's fine. It uses Blu Rays, has great hardware etc.

Eh, whatever they do at this point PC Gaming wins, release a new console and it gets all the cool graphics and tech stuff immediately ushering another "new generation" of games and some innovation.

Don't release it and they'll be left in the dust while more and more of the market changes back and console/console game sales go down like the past 3 years.

gaming as a whole in graphics terms is being held back by this console generation released close to 5 years ago or more, have you actually looked at the specs of a ps3/xbox360? just yesterday i read an artical stating the the ps3 would never have cross game chat because it lacked the required ram, the ps3 only has 256mb of ram the laptop im writing to you on has 16times that amount and my phone has double. the graphics cards in the systems are 6 generations behind are well due for an upgrade.

developers and publishers make 80%+ of their profit on the console market and since the hardware hasnt moved forward they see no reason to put any more effort into the development of new engines and smarter AIs. Why do you think the last 5 cods (including mw3) have used the same engine? well A) because activision are lazy and money grubbing but also B)there's no point bringing out a new engine when the consoles cant handle anymore
