I'll be honest, this disgusts me. Sony is trying to make more money off of someone's death? If anything, you should decrease prices so that more people can listen to her music. This just makes Sony look like they didn't care at all for the singer herself and only the albums she put out.

What do you guys think?

When there is blood in the streets, buy property. Different situation, same spirit. A businesses first and foremost goal and responsibility some might say, is to make money. You don't have to like it but there it is.

Sony doesn't care about our opinions, they care about profit. They don't view this move as insensitive, they view it as a strategical business opportunity. In the end,it will probably prove to be a smart move on their part; it will most likely make them money. Is it morally questionable to attempt to maximize profit after (and, in this case, due to) someone's death? Sure. Do they care? Most likely not. Hell, they've got more money than Davy Crockett, they couldn't care less.

I shall describe this, using the single most powerful word known to man for a situation such as this: Meh.

I found it in quite poor taste that there was already a big banner on iTunes saying 'remembering Whitney Houston' with a link to all her songs. Talk about cashing in! :(

But yeah that and what Sony are doing doesn't sit quite right with me

Sure exactly the same thing happened to Michael Jackson's music when he died. This is nothing new.

No seriously, this is as old as the hills (or the Smiths):

Basic rules of ecanomics... supply and demand... With limited supply and enough demad companies can do what the hell they like...

What I want to know, if the consumers were that big of a fan, why didn't they have the album already? Or do they beleive that the music will somehow dissapear with the singer? (Sorry, sounds more brash than I am trying to be...)

Honestly it doesn't surprise me, now everyone is going to start talking about how great she was and gloss over the bad stuff. We'll probably see a Glee episode about some of her music too

My thoughts exactly, I don't like her music so I won't be buying her albums so this does not effect me in any way, shape or form.

Is it really that bad? I mean death is a tragic thing, what's wrong with trying to bring some good out of it?

Regardless of morals it's a sound business decision.

Now if this disgusts you, don't research further into this area, I mean this is nothing compared to how gold sellers capitalised on the chaos caused by 9/11 to drive the price of gold up (giving rise to nearly 10 years of "Cash4Gold" adverts on tele), how the US made oil fields initial targets in the gulf war to secure new resources for their corporations back home, or how NATO demanded that for helping the rebels overthrow Gadaffi's regime in Libya, they be 'paid' in oil...

Of course what happens when the supply is infinite, which the situation you have here is.

Meh I agree with you though, a company has the right to do whatever the hell it wants with it's properties. The company must also realize however that the age of casette tapes and LP's are over and there are other ways to obtain the product.

Completely expected considering how much Sony hates their customers. These pricks take every chance they have to take a steaming dump on their consumer base and they just keep coming back fro more. So I guess that makes them smart too.

Kinda lame since Houston hasn't done much of note lately and anyone who would buy her CDs likely already has them.

So as said above by Lionsfan, meh.
