I think Sony should just embrace open architecture. On PCs, cheating in online games has been around since online games, and there are ways within the game itself to recognize cheating.
Now, PSN can use checksums to determine if one is using a modified system, and restrict access to PSN that way, kind of how Blizzard prevents cheating in World of Warcraft. I think that would be fairly easy and stop 95% of hacking and cheating in multiplayer games that connect through PSN.
For single player games that don't use PSN, I predict any secutiry measures Sony tries will fail.

No, that wouldn't make sense. PSN is free. Anyone who is banned can just make another account within minutes and keep on doing his thing. Xbox Live requires a fee and anyone banned will need to spend $$$ to make another account. Not many people are willing to do spend that much money like that, and if they are then good for Mircosoft I suppose. Sony doesn't have that advantage and they definitely aren't gonna start charging for PSN just to get rid of some hackers, especially considering it's been a major selling point for the PS3 for the longest time.BabyRaptor said:

I support the hackers when it comes to homebrew applications, the PS3 is a piece of hardware they legally purchased, it's their property and they can do what they want with it. I have a Sony Ericsson X10 phone with a custom bootloader and homebrew Android 2.2 ROM because SE refuse to release one officially, and now it runs a ton faster and has all the features us consumers have been asking for but have been refused for no other reason than developer lazyness. Same principle.
