Tokyo executives for the company's Japanese parent have reportedly been meeting with banks recently to hear pitches on a potential sale of Sony Pictures Entertainment, according to a report from The New York Post that cites multiple unnamed sources. The Post had previously reported that Sony would be willing to listen to pitches regarding the unit, which makes movies such as the upcoming Spider-Man: Homecoming as well as TV shows like Jeopardy and The Blacklist.
Disney is going to be at the front of the queue for this, they get the rights back for Spiderman and Constantine's film division goes bankrupt without Sony distributing Resident Evil meaning the F4 return as well.

Sony, when you have to get other much better run studios to make you money it's time to ge tout of the film business. Why are you making an Emoji movie?

I don't know if Disney even can buy them. Oh I know they'd want to, but anti-trust laws may prevent it given they'd definitely cross the market threshold for it.

Fox or Universal I'd see as more likely to do it.

If Sony are getting rid of their film division anyway maybe they can work out a deal with Disney to buy the rights back for things like Spiderman before they sell off the rest of the film side of things.

I'd rather that then the rights to these movies going out to who knows what company.

Ehh, as much fun as it would be for the govt to prevent a single media company from owning fucken everything. I doubt it would happen, lately not many big mergers have been blocked and since trump now in charge. I can't see the govt regulating anything for awhile.

I don't know, Trump explicitly called the AT&T and TimeWarner deal a case of too much centralised corporate power that the government should stop. Whether he means it is up for debate, but the fact of the matter is the government seems to at least want to give the image of reigning the megacorporations in, and Disney buying Colombia Pictures would be too obvious to let slip through just for the sake of appearances.

He did, but now hes really trying to backpedal by saying "I haven't seen any of the facts, yet."

This is from a different article but I swear it's 100% legit.
"They want to see how the "Emoji Movie" movie does because they think they have a franchise and it might help them get a better price," said a source, the film, which features a poop emoji, comes out on August 4.

I think I pinpointed the point Sony movies dies.

Considering everything we learned from the North Koreans Hacking them, to the box office disappointments to box office failures, to some of the worst ideas for movies to make (From Annie to the new Ghostbusters to the incredibly stupid Emoji Movie), this was bound to happen sooner or later. Hopefully Spiderman goes back to Disney when all is said and done.

Well, it's a well earned failure. Part of me is happy to see this after their display of arrogance. This is what happens when you show contempt for your audience.

But part of me is also worried about Disney owning everything on the planet.

honestly I think it's just going to be them selling off the properties like Activision take when it when a business, I think will give them more money overall and clear some headaches

We don't know what the deal is with Sony and Spider-Man. It might actually have a reversion clause of some sort. Should Sony sell or go bankrupt it might auto revert back. Or Marvel/Disney may have right of first refusal to buy it back at a fair market price.
